PS2 or USB Mouse?

Which is better? I've heard different people say both are better and now I'm confused

Who in the blue hell told you a PS2 mouse was better than USB?

USB is much better. Hotswappable, ~120Hz default refresh rate, and more compatibility across platforms.

Well, IMHO, a mouse is a mouse. I have a PS2 Optic mouse, and I have tried a usb optic mouse. Both acted the same.

you can adjust ps/2 to 200hz refresh, i can hot swap it too, i dont' see a difference.

And you can't adjust a USB mouse to 200hz refresh speed.

PS2 can use a 200 hz refresh rate
PS2 is universally compatible

We have dedicated ports for both keyboards and mice, USE THEM.

Well I have a Logitech "Optical Mouse" and it is USB but comes with some adapter to ps/2 and i use that mainly because I know i'll lose the adapter thing if I don't use it

The one thing I really appreciate about USB devices (not just mice) is the no-hassle design of the plug that lets you stick it in with ease without really looking or scrounging around behind the case. But I still use my PS/2 MS Intellimouse Pro (not neutered) because it is still great after four years of mousing . My other machines use USB mice.

I prefer USB to PS/2 infact I don`t bother with PS/2 anymore,I like to go with the newer technology besides it`s only a matter of time before PS/2 will be phased out,I guess it really comes down to if you have a spare USB port for your mouse.


The 200Hz refresh rate for PS/2 mice I`ve read it increases CPU usage,nothing for nothing as they say.

I have to wonder about this statment. I would say that A PS2 has hirer platform compatibility just because it has been around longer and is widly used.

I tend to steer clear of the "It's newer technology" argument. Have you ever been an unwitting "beta tester" for a "new" technology? Not that that is a particular issue with USB... However, I seriously doubt PS2 is going anywhere soon. Yes, in time, it will be phased out. But a vast majority of mainboard manufacturers continue to put PS2 ports on their boards. This will continue for a while, I think. (Along with floppys. Yes they are 20 years old, but they are not going to go anywhere in the immediate future.) I use both PS2 and USB mice. I see no differance. I like USB becuase it allows me to add a second mouse to my existing setup (sometimes, a trackball is simply not what I need, so adding the second optical mouse is nice for the few times I need it). I also use PS2 since I didn't want to buy a new USB capable KVM when mine is quite serviceable (though my mouse is USB, with a PS2 adapter). Plus, how often do people really change mice where the "ease of connection" is really an issue? You plug the mouse in, and forget it.

I use a USB MS intelli mouse mouse and a USB with PS2 adapter Logitech Elite Keyboard. Donno why I just like that setup. I can't tell whicjh works better seems he same to me.

So? Can your monitor can refresh at 200Hz as well? Any mouse polling rate beyond you monitor's refresh rate is extraneous.

What's the problem, PS2 or USB a mouse is a mouse which ever way you plug it, it only provide the same purpose, what you want super mouse, save the usb slot for other device, it's not like you'll see the difference.
