Here it is.

I thought HDCP was suppose to cover that. What do they do differently from HD-DVD?

Yeah, I think alot of people were counting on a Spring PS3 launch and a decrease in Xbox 360 price. Looks like that's not happening. It's a great time to be owning a 360 right now- w/ Oblivion, G.R.A.W., and Gears of War coming out soon (GRAW being already out). If you can wait to November however, I would count on a 360 price cut- I'm guessing $349 for Premium and the Core model being discontinued.

Release in Japan and US in Nov, no biggie and no real delay to the US folks. Sony doesn't have compition in Japan yet, so a delay isn't as big a problem as one in NA.

If M$ would discontinue the Core model and produce a significant number of Premium packages over the next 6months for $349 MSRP, they could get some significant market share in NA at least.

Proof that God does love gamers. BR can go to hell with Beta Max. Even though it's bad for competition, I hope Sony suffers great financial loss and reorganizes to the company it used to be.

Read it again: "The Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun has reported that Sony will delay the launch of PlayStation 3 until November of 2006. The North American launch date is still up in the air."

Sony is going to miss the holiday season in NA. Maybe there are bigger issues than BR copy protection.

I wonder if they are still changing HDCP restrictions. No wonder no one is shipping HDCP-compliant graphic cards. I just hope my hdcp compliant TV is capable of BD/HD-DVD when everything is said and done.

Sadly, from a consumer's point of view, recent DRM news are simply a total joke. We the consumer lose the most.

I don't think HDCP is being changed. It must be something else related to BR.
MS is pushing "managed copy" on HD-DVD. BR does not support it yet (if ever).

BR doesn't *require* managed copy- it has always supported it, neither does BR *require* copy protection- it simply supports it. It is up to the studios what they are going to implement. The copy protection issues currently impacting BluRay are also impacting HD-DVD- both formats are delayed until the specs are finalized.

oh i don't know ---

stealing the walkman
giving people a nasty rootkit
killing starwars galaxies

just to warm up a bit.

--------
But cmon, the PS3 was gonna hit the shelves at least 100$ move expensive than the 360. So the prices were not gonna come down (esp when MS is already losing a packet).
That the PS3 would be delayed has been well known now (esp when people learned there were no PS3's demo'd --just empty shells)

Wrong. Toshiba is releasing the players in a few days.

Putting out cheaply made products instead of the quality stuff they used to build for the same price or more, nasty rootkit fiasco (worth mentioning twice), and last but not least...proprietary formats that are lower quality, lower performance, and cost more than previous generation products (see UMD, MiniDisc, and all the different flavors of MemoryStick).

Ok, MiniDisc was pretty good quality, but you had to record everything in real time. Nope, not spending an hour making a compilation disc that I can only play in my home or on a portable player. CD is equal quality and much more universal.

Edit: This is coming from a guy who owns or has owned a Sony LCD screen remote control, ES Mobile car stereo, PS2, 27in Wega, VHS recorder, 19in Trinitron CRT, and 5disc DVD player. Sony used to put quality first and the name actually meant a quality product. Now everything is low quality, proprietary, and in some cases seems anti-consumer (again, see rootkit fiasco). Given the rootkit issues and their performance over the last few years, I wouldn't trust Sony to allow managed copy of anything any further than I could throw their corporate headquarters. They have proven to me that their only interest is profit and in pursuit of profit they're willing to strip all the consumer's fair use rights away, then charge ridiculous prices for the same content (why is lower quality UMD more expensive than DVD again?) repackaged. Their perception of a customer must be something likened to a dumb sheep.

They won't see another dime out of me.

I know that BR does not require managed copy. BR camp does not want to implement it despite of strong MS push. And maybe this is the issue. BR camp is still making their mind - "are we going to fight MS or not".

Nevertheless, BR players are going to be out much sooner than PS3. It means BR player is not holding PS3 back. It has to be something else.

Copy protection? lol. What they don't understand is that hackers/crackers are just as smart as they are. Why should we have to wait for something that'll still be hacked in a couple months at best?

That November date is for Japan. I wouldn't expect to be seeing the PS3 in the USA this year and I expect they will be scarce when they do arrive. In the mean time I'll be enjoying my Xbox360.

xbox 360 WTF!!

Although if the ps3 does what they say it will do (120 fps in every game) it will be a sight to see.

But for now xbox 360 is the way to go.
