I try not go off the deep end when I see stuff that seems bad or doesn't add up...But when you run into something like I did today you just have to stop and pray to the gods that they will invent a way to either strangle someone to death via Ethernet, SMTP, or via phone land line.

I go on Google and do a search for a Canon G7 camera, and this site pops up

www.bestpricecameras.com

Click on the link, can't believe the price, it is seriously like at least 100 dollars cheaper than other sites...and it seems like a pretty decent site on the exterior.

I do a little looking around, free shipping...ect...two for two I think to myself. Then I decide since I have never dealt with this company before I will attempt to call in my order.

Call and Call no answer...so I finally call today and get ahold of someone who is an A$$hole from the very beginning, rude, cutting me off...ect.

I ask about the camera in question...to quote the price, verify that it is new and not a referb...and what is all included with it.

The guy responds rudely....NOTHING....if you want the deal with everything included in the box the price is 550.00.

I am like...so the price you have listed on your site is bogus? He begins to yell at me and tell me that it is 550 for the camera and if I want to buy it or not...I started laughing and tell the guy to Fvck off and that is the end of it.

I go on resellersratings.com and out of 200 reviews they had 1 positive, 1 neutral and 198 very dissatisfied reviews

So there rating was 0.0...

I was astonished at some of the reviews and what they had done to people...just amazing that they are in business.

So Cliffs

DON"T BUY from www.bestpricecameras.com if you value your money....

OR

Call and mess with the jerk store employees for a laugh...

But don't rule a company out because they're from NY either.

Basically, go to DPreview.com and see whose prices they list on their site. Those are the places you should buy from.

Edit:

Good camera stores:
B&H
Adorama
Beach Camera
BuyDig isn't bad

I won't buy from a site online unless I've heard about it from someone else. WAAAAAY too many shady places to risk it.

So basically, what you're telling us is that you would have been trapped and scammed had it not been for a rude @sshole of an employee taking your call. If the guy had been courteous and confirmed the scam price listed on their site, you would have been had......

The lesson for everyone is, the first thing you do before you shop somewhere is to check places like resellerratings, ripoffreport, BBB etc, especially if it's for something for a significant amount of money. Of course, the other thing to always keep in mind.... "if it seems too good to be true......"

I've purchased from a shady NYC camera dealer. As soon as I ordered it (original Digital Rebel), I got the call from them trying to add on to the sale. I went along with it, asking questions, etc. Eventually I got them to ship it to me without any addons.

You are incorrect...my call was to confirm two things...one the price and two what was all included in the package since it didn't list it on the site.

The fact that the guy was a complete ass didn't help matters. If the guy would have been super nice and said, nope...that price is just for the camera...nothing else. I would have said something a little nicer but gotten the point across that it is mis-representing and wrong.

I wouldn't have bought it....

That's exactly what I meant, the guy could have told you it was all included and been very nice, and you would have been scammed. In the future, check outside resources first.

OK I see your point, however if you call and someone says...yes the price is xxx and it is retail blah blah blah....

You order it via credit card and then you apparently get scammed...what is stopping me from contesting the charge with the CC company, and letting the CC company sort out the mess.

Granted you are totally right, and I always do check up on things when I purchase stuff from a new site...my first line of checking was verifying what the details of the actual product was...in the event the guy was nice, told me the right price and product I still would have looked up the site.

I wrote this basically to make it visible to others who might not have heard of the site or that type of bait and switch crap they try.

beach and buydig are the same place. and they're in jersey.

those first 2 are basically the only 2 camera stores in NYC that i'll trust. those gray market places on times square are awful too. just like canal street in NO.

You say you are busy and skimming, i.e. you didn't actually read his post, and you are flaming him?

Like he said, didn't your parents teach you to read?

I'm not going to read every huge thread I come across. Mistakes happen, it was easy to assume this was a whine post, we've seen them before. My question still isn't answered though. Only a moron would buy from someplace without doing their homework on it, so why post a warning here unless you think ATers are ridiculously stupid?
