So I'm looking for a PSU that can handle ~9 hard drives, all SATA plus a SATA CD Drive (10SATA Connectors total, but I could live with 9). From the somewhat extensive research and my own personal knowledge (~10yrs), it looks like my only choice is PPC&C. The only problem is that the only PSU that comes close is the 1200W ESA, which has 8.

Essentially, my question is: is there any other reliable PSU makers out there that offer what I'm looking for or will I have to mod a PPC&C PSU (killing any warranty the unit comes with)?

Then again, I could always steal Anandtech's custom PSU....

EDIT:I should make it clear that I will not, under any circumstances, resort to using a Molex -> SATA adapter (I am really big about having a clean wiring job, and that's impossible to do using an adapter).

Awesome, thanks a lot man. My only concern with these is reliability. I've read that modular PSUs can be pretty iffy(lot of voltage variation on the lines). I actually have a friend though who just bought the Antec and he seems to be doing fine. My only worry with these multiple rail PSUs is that one of the rails will get way more of a load than the others.

I suppose the Corsair would be fine though. 1000w is way more than I need, which should make it easy for it to handle.

Any other thoughts?

It has been said that the resistance in the lengths of the cables is more than the resistance from a modular connector.

As for your multi-rail concerns. The Corsiar HX1000 is basically 2 independent 500 watt power supplies in the same unit, the 2 12V rails each have 40amps or 480 Watts available to them. It doesn't matter if you are pulling 40 Amps from one and 0 from the other.

Here are some reviews

edit: according to Corsair's website it has 10 SATA connectors, but according to both of these reviews it has 12.

None of your drives have both Molex AND SATA connectors on them? I make it a point to always use Molex because the SATA connectors are VERY brittle, VERY sloppy and constatly break or fall off the drive.

I prefer to use the SATA connectors because it makes cabling look neater. Molex connectors are always on the far right which makes it harder to conceal, whereas the SATA power connector is behind(if ur looking @ it from the right) the SATA connector. I've never had any connectors break or fall off on me tho. I did have a few SATA data lines fall off tho. That was when SATA first came out and I got some really cheapo cables. Those things were terrible.
