I am sitting here working on my brothers computer for him. We just installed a new motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 (nforce2). We also put in a new heatsink to try and get his cpu temps down (had been running at around 50C) The new heatsink is a thermalright SLK800. We are having 2 problems. First of all, the motherboard is only showing an Athlon XP 1500 speed on boot and the gigabyte utilities from the OS are showing 1500XP speeds. I just recently installed this same motherboard and had this same problem, but was able to fix it by adjusting the multiplier and FSB settings to their correct ones for my cpu. Whenever we try this with his bios settings, it will not change the cpu speed that the mobo is detecting. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for this problem?
The second problem is that his temps are running extremley high. Our systems are almost identical, except he has an Athlon 2100XP and I have a Barton 2500XP. We both have the same case and heatsink and the same case and cpu fans. My cpu temp is showing 29-30C while his is showing 44-45C. This is better than what his was at at 50C, but it is still so far above mine that I am worried about the discrepancy. I am not a total genius, but I am not a wet-behind-the-ears noob at this either, but this one has me stumped. Any suggestions are appreciated
