I really cant find out what to clock my Q6600 at, atm I am running 9x356 = 3200 but with a 1.41Vcore, but this gives me a 70-85 core temp readings. And I cant see how this can be real its supposed to be that hot :/

Setup
Q6600 G0
Abit IP35Pro
Scythe Infinity

My Q6600 at 3.6ghz (400x9) is 1.36 vcore (in cpuz, 1.3950 in bios) and cores idle from 30-35, full load from 50-55.

With thermaright ultra 120 Extreme / scythe fan, cm690 case.

I actually got it running orthos for about 45 seconds at 3.9ghz but then bsod. temps got to about 63 on load. Thats with 1.43 vcore.

That seems strange that you can run so much higher with that little vcore. I know the ultra 120 is more powerfull but still this is a hugh difference.

q6600 g0, abit ip35 pro, true 120 w/ yate loon (not lapped... yet)

3.2 (4x800) default voltage settings for everything, but ram (2.125 fro 4GB of Corsair Twin2X2048-6400C4)

cpu-z reports 1.27-28 idle with CIE disabled. 1.23-24 under load. uguru reports similar voltages with +.01-+.05 from time to time.

room temp, ~70F. idle ~28C +-2, load ~54 +-2

i ran the machine @3.2 with a 9x multiplier and temps were ~5C higher... same voltage.

You shouldn;t need that much vcore, and your hsf may not be mounted correctly.

Yeah try reseating the heatsink, i did and knocked off ~10 degrees to get what im at now. I use the same motherboard as you btw. Vcore seems high to hit that number as well.

off-topic question.. how do you like your hx620w? i have one, but i think i experience coil whine under load at peak temps... the fan rpm increases... i can feel more air flow.. temps drop for a while and it starts all over again... this is when i am running prin95 though... the machine runs stable for 12 hours.. but the whine is getting to me.. will try a few things before rma

I think adding what fan you are using would help. A TRUE with a 120x25 undervolted is going to have a lot higher temp then a 120x38 130cfm 50db monster (as an example).

I with my TRUE and panaflo 120x38 low speed fan, I can vary the temps ~6-7C just by undervolting it. Currently, my q6600 is running at 1.376V @ 3.5GHz Temps hit 60C max during Prime runs. Undervolting my fan to 7-9V raises it to 67C.

I run with the stock fan, I have thought about getting a new one, but I dont want noise lvl to rise, and I have no idear what to take then.

crobtab: I dont hear mine, guess I dont stress it enough, my cpu fan is the thing in my case making the most noise (not alot but its still the loadest of the fans in the case)

But Iam going to bed, its 3am here...

Your Q6600 probably has a high VID. Read this thread

My Q6600 is running at 3205mhz with vcore reporting at 1.232v in CPU-Z. Temperatures at idle for the 4 cores are 32-35. Highest temps I have seen outside of Prime95 has been 44* on the cores.

Q6600 G0 on a MSI P35Neo2-FR board
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pr

Not sure why I stopped there, just haven't felt the need to go any further on the OC yet. Set it at 3.2 and ran Prime95 for 12 hours without errors. Very happy with the low voltage/heats and a decent speed, so I've left it alone.... so far! Best of luck.

First, I'd heard some recent rave praise for that ABIT board.

Second, I'm stunned that your VCORE is 1.41V with a G0 stepping revision.

Third, I think your temperatures are too high, and for some reason . . .

I'm running the B3, and at 3.2 Ghz, 79F room-ambient, the upper range of all core temperatures was between 64C and 65C.

You could improve on the Scythe, but I only suspect that the Scythe is not the only problem. I wouldn't know for sure -- can only speculate.

Mine runs 39* idle and high 40's playing Quake or Crysis. Prime95 will bring her to 60 but that's as high as it goes and only during a Crysis!

Using stock Intel HSF and I have yet to lap it though I probably will, next time I am inside.

Did you just go to that vcore straight up? Have you tried lower ones and test stability?

I think it might be the thermal paste, I just made a stripe in the middle as I thought artic silver suggested. What do you guys use to even it out, a credit card?

VID is 1.30V btw
