Q6600 vs. Opteron (AM2) 1352

Ok,

So AMD has the watered down 2300 series for AM2. I am on a budget, am building for a workstation-compiling-SW dev machine running linux and solaris. I do not game, and was wondering if anyone had seen a comparison between these 2.

FSB is a bit faster intel, but the IMC is 4 GHz for the Opteron. I like AMD more, but do not believe in buying a lesser product. Chipsets aren't a factor -- I am looking entirely chip to chip:

speed vs. heat vs. TDP vs. system performance

Not even close... Intel wins at the same clock speed, and these are 2.1 vs Intel@ 2.4 and $20 more to boot.

Q6600 crushes them.

so in software development the Integrated mem controller doesn't count for that much?

I have read intel does better still without it, I just wanted to know if anyone had experience with the new opterons.

Intel wins again. I think the Q6600 pretty much thrashes just about any AMD quad out right now...in just about everything.

I owned amd exclusively for 8 years before putting my 3 current rigs together. intel is without a doubt the way to go these days unless you're using a 4+ socket server.

does linux have any advantages with the core 2 architecture?

or is linux intentionally slow on them?
