The E8500 proc for $190 is a pretty good deal since it's been known to OC to ~4GHz on air, but I like the Q9*** proc for future proofing and less power consumption and less heat generation. Seems to be the best proc for LGA775.
Seems like when the E8400 (~$150) is OC'ed, it has too many heat issues and the Q6600 (~$180) draws too many watts.

Are these 9450's in EOL status?

Apparently so...the Q9400 will be out and this one will fade away.

what are the Q9400 specs? ?6mb L2 cache? and i'd imagine a 8 multi...

Great price. And yes, Q9450 will never drop to $125. In fact, it'd be hard to imagine it drop below $200, unless in used chip market. Intel will maintain price point for these so it does not erode quad core prestige and profit margins.

Maybe you are right, but my experience tells me that it just might dip under a $100. My socket 939 4400+ dual core used to cost around $550. I picked it up about a year ago for $99, brand new in a retail box with the fan from TD with no rebates. Just my 2 cents.

A q9450 will never be $125. It is EOL and they are clearing remaining stockpile.
Also, the E8400 and E8500 are the same chip basically...Ive never heard of an E8400 having a heat issue :/.
