I was waiting on the price drop on the 9550, but .5 multiplier is probably not worth 40+ bucks (assuming >$5 increase on tray price after price cuts). I wanted to OC to at least 3.6, hmmmm

I like this proc also. I won't pick 1 up though until prices hit rock bottom (~$125 in 6-12 months).

The E8500 proc for $190 is a pretty good deal since it's been known to OC to ~4GHz on air, but I like the Q9*** proc for future proofing and less power consumption and less heat generation. Seems to be the best proc for LGA775.

Seems like when the E8400 (~$150) is OC'ed, it has too many heat issues and the Q6600 (~$180) draws too many watts.

A q9450 will never be $125. It is EOL and they are clearing remaining stockpile.

Also, the E8400 and E8500 are the same chip basically...Ive never heard of an E8400 having a heat issue :/.

Great price. And yes, Q9450 will never drop to $125. In fact, it'd be hard to imagine it drop below $200, unless in used chip market. Intel will maintain price point for these so it does not erode quad core prestige and profit margins.

Unless ALL one does is video editing/encoding then these things surely still are not worth $120 more than a good Q6600...IMHO.

Are these 9450's in EOL status?

Apparently so...the Q9400 will be out and this one will fade away.

Yeah, but the Q9400 is taking the place of the Q9300. The Q9550 is taking the place of the Q9450.

Maybe you are right, but my experience tells me that it just might dip under a $100. My socket 939 4400+ dual core used to cost around $550. I picked it up about a year ago for $99, brand new in a retail box with the fan from TD with no rebates. Just my 2 cents.

Intel has a lot more control over pricing than AMD does, and can keep making near-infinite variations of chips so that the "old" chips don't really drop much in price past a certain point, but just becomes EOL.

Mine came in today. I am waiting for my mobo / video / ram to come in from New Egg. The guaranteed UPS 3-day is taking 4 days....

So, if any of you would like to know any of the numbers / details off of the actual q9450 chip from Microcenter, let me know via PM. Not much to do with it otherwise until tomorrow.
