q9550 on ep45-ud3p -help :)

I currently have a q9550 on a Gigabyte p35c-ds3r motherboard with 4gb of G.Skill ddr2 ram.

I am going to install:
Gigabyte ep45-ud3p motherboard
8gb of Crucial Ballistix ddr2 ram

Will I lose my OS (Win7 x64) during this change? Is there any recommendations you can make or things I should do before the transfer?

though reading through that thread would be a good idea, I would say you would probably be ok, based on the similarity of the p35 vs p45 mobo chipsets. I might be wrong though. I know I went from am XFX 680i LT to an EVGA 780 FTW a while back with no trouble.

It seems that it is different for Win7 then when that sticky was created.

It appears you need a clean reinstall of win7 with a new motherboard as a new motherboard is considered a new system by MS.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I went from an X38 to p45 without having to reinstall the os. I just had to run the startup recovery after booting the system for the second time (first time so windows installs all the drivers).

Did you backup your files and boot from cd or just plug everything up and windows detected it?

Also, did you uninstall all your drivers from device manageR?

well my files are always on a separate drive so thats up to you (back it up just in case, this should be done in a regular basis anyways). I didnt uninstall anything. just took out the old mobo, installed the new one then booted into windows..

you should be fine. im sure you keep your most prized files in a backup somewhere :thumbsup:
