Can't make CoreTemp Beta 0.95.4 to work With Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Running at administrator and compatibility mode (XP S2). Says driver failed to load.

Using PCProbe II software that came with the mobo.

Make sure you are extracting the files before trying to execute it. Itll flip out if youre just executing the file in the compressed folder. I made that mistake becuase the vista interface for unzipping is goofy.

Files are extracted with Winrar in it's own folder. I'm at wits end trying to make it work. Program does an endless loop trying to work, have to end process via windows task manager. BTW, I have a 120mm fan in front of 2 HDD bay of the case, Chieftec Dragon Silver, I'll be really happy to get a 50% OC at 3.6GHz with a Ultra-120 Extreme. Next would be lower the timings on the memory and perhaps OC the eVGA 8800GTS 640mb.

If youre running the same cooler as the 320MB i have, its a flamethrower. I refrained from OCing because of the temps it runs @ stock.

G0? does the product code on the box end in SLACR?

Im gussing since you got to 3.6 and the VID was 1.25v that it is a G0.

Yeah.. It's a G0. I got it from Tankguys. They guaranteed it.
Great processor. I'll see if i can push it further. The only thing is that the Load temps are 79°C at the highets.. A little high. But then again that's with running Prime95 on all four cores for two hours. Games are a lot better - around 55°C. Not bad.

I have yet to lap my q6600 as well.. I might do that this weekend.

Yeah ive found that nothing even approaches prime temps, even giant rars. Im usually 5-8C less under full load than prime (and thats on water).

When you boot up, just after the BIOs screens, hit "F8" and select "disable driver signing.."
I may be off on the exact wording but you will see the option

Well, pretty cool thread. I think one thing if obvious - water isn't much better than the high end air coolers. You may get another 100-200Mhz on average, but that isn't much, not to me anyway... Still might be fun to build a water rig someday.

That depends on the water cooler. If you have a custom made with a triple 120 radiator a good block, some monster fans etc.. It's always going to beat out top end aircooling unless you're putting an AC unit blowing full speed into the case.

I love my ThermalRight 120, with a Panaflo M1A (87 cfm). Idle temps at q6600 3.6 is 43.. roughly.

In the end, I settled on the following overclock:

Defiantsf
Q6600: 3.2GHz @1.344V (TR-U120x) #G0
---Board: 680i

36 hrs Orthos stable hehe.

I could do up to 3.5GHz with TR-U120X, but at the cost of much higher load temp (77C >< ). At 3.2GHz, I re-enabled C1E, and get clocked down 2.4GHz operation when idling or just surfing online. Full speed when I game. Power savings are a good thing in California haha. Couldn't make EIST to work properly though when OC'ed.

Oh well, I am set 'til Nehalem hehe. 8 cores and 16 threads from HT.

Well, I just got my 4th quad today, a DQ6 motherboard, a Q6600 G0, and an ultra120 extreme lapped with OCZ LL PC 6400 memory. Right now bench boots at 3.6 and 35c idle. Now I have to put it in the case, and see if its stable, and the real temps under load, vcore, and stability ! Stay tuned.

Update.... Running 100% load, all 4 cores@3.6 1.4 vcore in bios, 1.36 under 100%load, 55C max load temps !!! Dang I love the Dq6 and the extrme 120 compared to all my other quads.

Now it has only been 10 minutes stability testing, but still......

Stop making me want a G0.

I have to wait for Penryn!

OK, after an hour, it re-booted, so I upped the vcore to 1.425 bios, 1.392 full load, now 57c full load. (54-58c coretemp on the 4 cores) Been a while since that.

Just make sure you're running Small FFTs.

If you want a really SERIOUS challenge, run TAT on top of Small FFTs (even though it'll only load two cores, those two cores will jump at least another 5 degrees O_O)

Well, it was perfectly stable as far as windows is comcerned@3.6, but F@H was giving EEU's, so I backed it down to 3.510, and lets see how it does. The temps are now @ 51C full load on all 4 cores ! Incredible.

mark slightly raise all your board voltages.

You cant run stock board voltages at 400fsb. its very hard to pull off.

Trust me, that board can take the increased voltage.

Can you also give me your batch number? Also download cpu-z 1.41 they finally got it to read the correct Vcore Real.

now do you understand why when people have the budget for DQ6 i recomend it highly?

I dont understand people who recomend the crappier DS3R or DS3L when there budget fits a DQ6.

The two boards are on a completely different ballgame.

I am running +.2 on most, +.15 on one. I am using cpu-z 1.41 and it says 1.392 full load. I didn;t take a picture, and its a real pain to mount that 120 ultra exteme on the DQ6. I used the nuts from my old Big typhoon, and left the bottom plate off. Just used paper washers under the nuts. So I don't want to take it off unless I have to.

What I can say, is this combination of parts is amazing. I also question my PSU (antec true power 550), as the last system on is was an S3, that re-booted quite often also (once ever 2 days or so), so it may be a PSU issue. Got a good recomendation there ? I have a fortron 700 on one of my other systems, but it re-boots once a week, or used to. its been quite a while now since it has.

Edit: and amazing lack of vdroop. 1.425 bios=1.416 boot no load=1.392 load !

go on jonnyguru.com and take a look at his psu reviews.

For a crunch box, i doubt it tho because you dropped some beefy parts there, a corsair 520 will do.

If its your main rig, do some justice and pick up a Antec Quattro 850 @ provantage.

The DQ6 really loves that PSU.
