More tidbits:
QRD Adreno 830 at 1.15GHz only runs 125 on Aztec 2K. Should be a little higher on mass produced devices. (like 88-89 on 8G3 qrd and 94-95 on mass produced)
So mass produced Adreno 830 1.15 GHz will do ~130, and the mass produced Adreno 830 1.25 GHz will do ~140.

That said though, GFXBench is getting ancient by this point. I am more interested in what A830 will look like in the more modern 3DMark Steel Nomad Light.

Nothing for it, Qualcomm will have to buy Intel for their GPU prowess
I don't think that's necessary. Apple's GPU architecture journey started when they acquired some patent from imagination, and since then Apple has developed their GPU in-house, without acquiring any companies (they have hired engineers from Nvidia/AMD though). Now Apple's GPU architecture has advanced to such an extent, it's better than Adreno and Mali.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 brings the new Adreno 8 series GPU architecture, with big rumoured improvements. We'll have to see how good it is.

It's still one SoC design on the same process node.

When they say "mass produced" they mean the QRD is just a dev platform so is run at a lower clocks, possibly for greater system stability vs production phone or tablet hardware.

I wouldn't say so at the moment - it tends to go back and forth from one gen to the next.

That's not even getting into HW RT which is still pretty up for grabs at the moment across the entire GPU design industry.

Apple has been evolving their GPU architecture, instead of just upping the core count and pumping the clock speeds. They have been adding desktop-grade features and improving compute performance. They have embarked on the road of making it a Nvidia-like top tier GPU architecture. Remember, this is the same GPU architecture that powers Macs.
Sebastian Aaltonen comments again about GPU architecture of Qualcomm.

PS: Wikipedia page on Adreno contains some nice info;

Adreno already conforms to desktop gfx API features and has done for some time.

As for Mali, if the rumours of ARM Ltd having ambitions towards discrete gfx are true then they almost certainly will be following suit on the driver side in due course, as that is definitely their worst problem at present.

Galaxy S25 Ultra makes appearance in Geekbench6.

It has been rumoured for a while that S25 series may be Snapdragon only in all regions, like the S23 series was.

Snapdragon 8G4 Adreno 830 leak:

For reference:
Going by the wildlife extreme score, Adreno 830 (1.15 GHz) is 10% faster than Apple M2, and equal to the GPU of X Elite.

The mention that 8G4 will support 10700 MHz memory is also notable. This refers to Samsung's LPDDR5X-10700 memory, the fastest LPDDR in the industry (at the moment). Dimensity 9400 was validated to support it earlier this year;

8 Gen 3 -> 8 Gen 4
Adreno750 -> Adreno 830

GFXBench Aztec Ruins
94 FPS -> 125 FPS (+33% gain)

3DMark Wildlife Extreme
32 FPS -> 44 FPS (+40% gain)

that Aztec ruins score is higher than M4 where it scores 110fps and in WLE M4 is around 60fps.

So just shows how bad GFXbench is.

If Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 itself is hitting 5 GHz...

Then how high will Snapdragon X2 Elite clock?

Somewhere between 5 and 5.5 GHz?

That's a ~25% improvement in single core perf, from clock speed alone.

It’s not that the benchmark is bad, it’s just that is what Adreno so far is designed for. Adreno’s GPU cores have double the FP16 compute, of course at the at the expense of other features. Space is finite.

The M4 is less than double the A18 Pro. Also, apparently for the camera processing, the M4’s SLC cache is 8 GB compared to the A18 Pro’s 24 GB.

For mobile games with simple shaders, it will reign. Aztec is a good benchmark for those type of games. Playing more complex games reveals what had to be given up for all that FP16 compute.

It seems most people don't buy this rumour, saying that there is no way a phone can reach 5 GHz.

Although the leaker is fairly reliable, and this isn't the first time that 8 Gen 5 is rumoured to be clocking at 5 GHz.

It does sound unbelievable though. That's basically the same clock speed as Intel/AMD's latest laptop processors (LNL/STX- 5.1 GHz).

True. Apple hired a lead architect from Nvidia a few years ago. He is now responsible for GPU architecture. https://www.linkedin.com/in/olivier-giroux-47101467/

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra visits Geekbench again;

4.47 GHz peak clock, as the leaks said;

Scores are lower than the normal 8G4 version that hit 3200/10000. So I guess S25 Ultra is still in the testing phase.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's Adreno 830 GPU lands in Geekbench OpenCL test;

About a 35% performance uplift from Adreno 750.

12 Compute Units (6 Shader Processors); same core count as 8 Gen 3 (Adreno 750).

M2 in OpenCL scores about 30k points. So it can still lag behind in computing power, despite the leaks.
