Microsoft actually thought that people would be quick to get one more laptop to try out the Snapdragon "magic", fall in love with the increased battery life and gradually wean away from x86.

You really don't need to be smart to make the big bucks these days. Just need to lie convincingly and pull people into your reality distortion field.

@shivapans
I would imagine QC and MS care. I expected them to foot the bill.
To be fair, my wireless Brother printer works better from my phone than it does from my Envy laptop, so there is that.

@jpiniero
Same as above, QC nad MS care. They keep pining over it.
As a purely laptop household, I also do want better battery life, bursty single thread and no fans.
Better battery simply so that I can keep my charger tucked away more, not because I actually need more autonomy.
Single thread because I use simple functionality.
No fans because fans are annoying.

You need the whole stack.
QC issue is they suck at building value parts (they have premium handset brain).
Hmm, guess you have not read about SD X's launching with system starting from $600. Qualcomm have created new SoC to replace SD 7 series targeting >=$600 PC laptop market.

OTOH, AMD's Kracken Point is slightly better specs than X series but AMD set the SRP above $800. That's why AMD has to cut the Kracken die to create R3 with 4 cores (2xZen5 + 2xZen5c) and 2CU (75% cut) with AI features.

We’ll see if this plays out since it’s quite early for there to be leaks but it’ll be good to check back on to see if this was valid. My opinion: seems too much of an increase. But if true would be impressive.

IIRC (and no I don't want to waste my time looking at anything related to this stupid benchmark), the global score aggregates CPU, GPU and system stuff. I already think that global scores are dumb, but they moved the stupidity to another level by accumulating oranges, apples and bananas.

Meanwhile google's Tensor G5 is rumored to have the performance of a dying rodent's anus. They'll still ask for flagship prices for their phones though....

Now I am surprised.
A ALL Big core design?
They should have named Snapdragon 8 Plus or the 8 Gen 4, this is no way an 8s tier.

Also that explains why Mediatek is about to launch the 9400e

Kinda hard to "kill a flagship" with X4.
But I guess it makes sense since Oryon-L only exists on an expensive N3E node, and 1st gen Oryon on N4 is kinda eh.

I must be missing something as it says 1 X4 + 7 A720. That's not all big cores, it's one big core and 7 medium ones.
Is considered "big" core if it is "Out of Order" execution.

No those "In Order" ones which PC emulation tends to fully avoid.

By the new standard yes, but a 5 wide OoO core is still plenty.

It's on N4P so it should be significantly more efficient than the N6 fabbed Cix P1 SoC with the same A720 cores.

It's not a small core for sure, but would you say Intel E cores are big cores? Compared to P cores, I'd say no. IMHO the same applies to A720 vs X4, hence why I would not say the SoC is an all big cores one.

No, but I also wouldn't call them efficient in any other way than how much area they consume to give a significant amount of perf.

They are basically just Intel's equivalent to AMD's Zen n-c cores at this point, any pretense to true PPA design has left the building.

A7xx on the other hand still retains this ideal (for now anyway).

Now that I know about this half way house of sOoO between in order and out of order I'm curious to see if any of the big CPU µArch designers will go down this path, as it sounds much more promising than the cluster thing ARM is doing with A5xx.

GPU independent cache increased from 12MB to 16MB, early performance increased by 30% ±, second-generation self-developed CPU architecture performance increased by 25% ±, supports the new generation high-speed LPDDR5X/LPDDR6, new machine file folder has been created, ID direction has been determined, aiming at the fruit (Apple)!

Sounds like a combo for LPDDR5X/LPDDR6. Curious to see how many devices will actual use LPDDR6 vs LPDDR5X.

To bad its not fully Windows app compatible yet! Otherwise, I would have brought a Qualcomm Snapdragon laptop but I brought a 15” M4 Air! It is so fast, nice built quality and completely silent. Brought it in silver! Love it!😍

Can’t blame you. Apple is only company that makes fanless laptops and they are great for basic tasks

Now that Fortinet has native ARM VPN Windows client all the tools that I use at work would work just fine native on Windows ARM. Next gen X Elite is real option now for me.
