I've got the 6800GT Golden Sample, highest temp I've seen is about 68^C@ultra speeds. I run it at GT speeds though, I'm CPU bound with a P4 2.4C. Performs like a champ though, haven't had any problems at all with it. I'd have to look up the exact warranty, I think its a year though.

Supposely they hand pick the components (i.e. ram) for golden showers..I mean samples...but I think its just some marketing BS...but they are warrantied to ultra speeds. I say if it cost about the same as other GTs..go for it, but if it cost significantly more, just get the cheapest GT. The VAST majority if 6800GTs can overclock to 400/1.1. But I must say that the heatsink/fan on the Gainward is nice, esp if you compare it to the BFG dual copper fan version....of which I have

So, is the BFG a bad card? I was thinking of buying the 6800 gt OC. Any advice on which GT card to buy?

the BFG is the best card you can buy IMO, OCed out of the box and a lifetime warrenty

as for the golden sample thing, i remeber with the 5900's the regular ones came with 2.8ns ram and the golden samples came with 2.2 ns so it isnt just marketing BS

For the 6800gts, there is no RAM diff between gs and non-gs

I have narrowed my selection to the BFG 6800 GT or the eVGA 6800 GT. Any reccomendations? Thanks.

My eVGA 6800 GT has run fine for about a month now. Its overclocked to Ultra speeds (400/1100 MHz) and have no artifacting. Plus, I got Far Cry with my card, which is a great deal in my opinion, since I didn't have the game already. I believe the eVGA is gonna be easier to find and cheaper to purchase than the BFG. In addition, I've heard (can't attest to this personally, cause I haven't dealt with a BFG) that the BFG's heatsinks on the 6800 GT's aren't as good as the factory heatsinks, causing the cards to run hotter than other 6800 GT's. That's just what I've heard though. Either way, you should be happy with your card, whichever brand you choose!

I really have to agree with Jim 1976.
The MSI gt is by far the sexiest with that red pcb and kickass all copperheatsink.
U can even adjust the speed of the fan with a small pot on the card but its not necessary, just set it to max and the card will adjust fanspeed itself.
Its barely audiable.
btw, pot=potentiometer...excuse me, im just a silly swede

Which is why when the 6800 GT GS bargen came up for only $430 people thought it was a good deal.
