Would two sticks of 512MB Crucial DDR 2700 at 2.5,(Part#-CT6464Z335), be able to compete successfully against two sticks of Corsair 256MB DDR 3200 at 2, (Part#- CMX256A-3200LLPT). I am just wondering if the extra 512MB of Crucial would boost the systems performance enough to put it on par with the Corsair. Thanks

It depends on a couple of things, such as the motherboard you are using and what applications you are running.

I have narrowed the motherboard down to either the Asus A7N8X Deluxe or the MSI K7N2G-ILSR. As far as Application goes, you name it I want to be able to run it, from Gaming to Paintshop to Spreadsheets etc. This is the second system I am building and although I have not done any Overclocking, I have made sure to put in the proper heatsinks and case fans in case I ever wanted to. So for now, not looking to Overclock but will build the system as if I were going to.

1GB of memory is starting to become useful. If you don't plan on overclocking, then the Crucial memory will most likely be able to run at those aggressive timings anyway. I would go with the 1GB, especially if you don't plan on upgrading your memory for a little while. I have never had to use more than 512MB of memory, but I have come close enough times that I would get 1GB.

I have heard that BF1942 and SimCity 4 benefit from 1GB of memory, but have no personal experince to back that up.

While not precisely what you're asking, check out the thread I put up in the CPU/OC forum I'm sure it'll help you make your decision one way or another

For what it's worth I just made the jump to 1gig of DDR. My 512meg stick of Crucial should be here in a few days. We are at the point where 1gig of ram will be of benefit to some programs (games mostly). I think that in the long run you'll see better gains from more ram than you will from less ram with slightly faster timings.
