Question about dual monitor capabilities

Hi, I'm planning a dual 24" setup for work, and I'd like to get a graphics card that is sufficient to drive two 1920x1200 displays. Which Nvidia card should I buy? I've had horrible experiences with ATI card drivers, so screw them, and I dont really care enough about the other chipsets

I'm a lawyer. I read lots and lots of text documents. (MS Word/Excel and PDFs mostly). Budget: Prefer less than 100 if possible, but wouldnt mind as high as 200 if the card will be dependable and quiet.

Pretty much any 8xxx series card will support dual monitors. The 8600GT is great value for around $100. Once you get to the $180 price range, the AMD HD3850 is the best card especially if you do some gaming.

Any dual Dvi card from the 6x or higher cards should work fine for up to 1920x1200 thats the limit of single link DVI which should be fine for your 24" screens, anything higher than that like a 30" will take dual link DVI ports and you might need a higher end card like something from the 8x series

Apparently the fan doesn't run when in 2D mode, which is a big plus IMO.

All the more reason to go totally fanless.

IMO for an office machine that will do nothing but view spreadsheets all day a fanless video card is a must.

Another good option would be a Quadro NVS 285, I picked up two brand new on ebay a year ago for about $25 apiece, after dongles I spent less than $35 each. 128 MB, passively cooled, dual DVI or VGA (depending on which dongle you buy). They're about the equivalent of a 7200GS IIRC.

I ran two NEC 20"s on a fanless $50 ATI X550 for a year with no problems (did some gaming too)so you don't need much.

Check out the Clear Type Tuner M$ Powertool as well if you haven't (for cleaning up fonts)
