Question about RAM

I talked to a Corsair rep today and they told me if I was going to buy a PC6400 800 series RAM, that it wasn't just a plug'n'play type RAM.
That I would have to enter the BIOS and enter numbers into it for the RAM.
Is this true for most RAM, especially non-value type RAM?
This build is not going to be overclocked at all.
I thought if you get a nice decent RAM, pop it in, off you go.

This was the RAM I was considering till I talked to the Corsair rep.

with that ram...when you first use it, it will boot up with 5-5-5-18 and in bios you will have to manually set it to 5-5-5-12/2t. Ive heard that you have to set the voltages for the ram to 1.9v also but im not certain on that one.

Geeez, I mean I like working with computers and I'm relatively good. But the BIOS stuff sometimes I just don't want to mess around with. lol

its not as bad as you think...you just need to know where to go and what to change...you can easily look things like that up.

If it's not overclocked, the timings won't matter to you and you will likely not notice a difference. Stick the RAM in, it'll run synchronously with the FSB automatically and the rest you don't need to bother with. You'd only be messing with the timings if getting every iota of performance was your ideal (and you already said you're not overclocking).
