Ok my motherboard supports up to 1066FSB, I want to get an E8400 which is 1333FSB.

Now if I place the CPU into my motherboard and boot up, will it give me BIOS error/no boot or will it just bottleneck the FSB down to 1066?

Also, I want to flash my motherboards BIOS. Problem is that I'm using Vista 64 bit, therefore AWDFLASH won't work in Windows and there are no other utilities that can flash the BIOS in Windows Vista (not that I know of). I don't have a floppy drive either (motherboard doesn't support floppies). So how can I flash my motherboard?

My Motherboard is the Foxconn G9657MA-8KS2H

Not all 965 chipset boards support 45nm cpus. I would double-check if the cpu is supported.

The compatibility list for my motherboard is outdated, it only goes up to Q6600 and thats where it ends. I don't think they have revised it since.

PS - Does anyone have a solution to my BIOS flashing problem?

Just off the top of my head: As a rule of thumb, I would only use a CPU with an FSB that matched the stock setting of the mobo, and then over-clock it from there.

I've got my own problems -- with a mobo certified at 1333 and an E8400 (1333) processor. OC'ing to FSB=1600 and 3.6 Ghz gives nice stable results under PRIME95 small-FFTs, and the memory seems absolutely certain to be A-OK. It "tests out" OK. But running Blend-Test to validate stability from the RAM perspective -- this is an SLI configuration -- causes BSOD at FSB 1600 after 20 to 30 minutes. At first, it looked like some buggy interaction between the screensaver component of the OS and the stress-test. But now it looks like something else. This -- after trying a different set of 4GB RAM modules -- and neither running over their stock spec speed and timings.

But -- back to your question: If the board is only certified to 1066, then I'd stick with a 1066-FSB processor. If it's warrantied and certified to run at 1333, then use a 1333 processor.
