How big of a real world difference is WideUltra2 compared to Ultra160. What benchmarkling utility do you recommend using to benchmark SCSI drives? (SiSioft, HD-Tac, etc...)
Depends on how many devices you hook up to a channel. If you hook one hard drive up you'll see little if any measurable (much less noticeable) performance advantage. You're only getting higher transfer rates (80Mb/s vs. 160) and it's unlikely you'll take advantage of that. This is why I'm only going to us an UW SCSI card on my Atlas 10k II.
It depends on how many drives you have on there. If you have say 1 Seagate Cheetah X15-36LP on there which can move over 60MB then you won't notice any difference; however if you put 2 of those on there you will definately notice a difference as the drives combined bandwidth will be limited to 80MB, even though their possible transfer rates could get up to over 120MB. A U160 card would provide enough bandwidth for the 2 Cheetah drives.
