Do you guys generally not like it when cars drift behind you, or what?

Normally it doesn't seem like its a problem, but it seemed like every truck I got behind yesterday was being a complete jackass.. brake checking me(at least as much as a semi-truck can.. lol), slowing down to 40mph, swerving into the shoulder(presumably to try and kick rocks at me?), etc.

Whats up with that? I was just tryin to save some money.

You do know that they can not see you when you are being a jackass like that.

Is following behind a semi really being a jackass? I mean, they do it to eachother. I see groups of 2-3 trucks following eachother all the time.

And yes, I'm aware they can't see me.. especially because my car is so small. Why is that a big deal? It's not like the semi could ever stop faster than I could, or anything like that. If I'm directly behind them, they don't need to see me?

Holy shit!
How old are you and how long have you been driving?

Answer my questions? I'm genuinely curious. Why is it a big deal if the truck driver can't see me when I'm behind him? I don't understand why it would be dangerous to me or him in any way, shape or form.

How do I know at what distance they can see me?

It's not like I'm a foot from their back bumper or anything crazy.

well stop being a moron and stop tailgating people

also stop being anal about the $0.50 you save by tailgating trucks and invest it in your safety

or invest it in the windshield washer fluid you're going to need more of now

While I see the fact that it is against the law, why are you calling Eli an Idiot or premature for doing this.

Plus, his story sounds a little sarcastic (eh?)

I stopped driving this last June, I hated when 4 wheelers would do that, mainly because we can't see where you are or what you are doing. And, even if you rear end the truck, the wreck can go on his dac record and screw him. And as for trucks tailgating each other, we can be in direct contact with each other, usually you get a loud "brake check" over the radio. In a car you can see out your rear view mirror, trucks don't have rear view mirrors, so that also makes us a little nervous---was that a cop behind me I can't see or just a black car?

If you can't see both his mirrors, he can't see you.

QFT. Did you sleep through driver's ed, OP?
Or else just read the signs on the back of some of the trucks.

I like drafting behind them too, but it's had to find one going 95mph.

I asked my dad about this, who is an OTR driver, and he gave me almost the exact response.

Common sense. Think about it, if you're driving a huge rig, you want to make sure where everything is on the road. Truck drivers get blamed for just about everything if an accident occurs that involves a truck... so naturally many truck drivers don't like it when they can't see what you're doing.

It is crucial to keep track of all the cars around you and approaching you. If you don't, you might get a nasty surprise when you make a lane change to let in other traffic, etc.
If somebody crawls clear up on my ass, I lose that contact and it does freak me out.
I had a guy do it last summer in a minivan, I thought he was somehow trolling for an insurance claim of some sort. I bet he was no more than 5 feet behind my mudflaps.
I thought it was just me, but the punk did it to a car on my right as I continued down the freeway

No - they can't SEE you. I think you're wrong when you think that the drivers are doing these things because you're behind them. I don't think your being behind them alters the way they drive at all.

Dur. I knew that.

Yeah, I understand I guess. It's just a peace of mind thing for them.

That's understandable.

I'm still going to find drivers that don't care, though.

If I were a trucker I wouldn't like people to be following so closely that I couldn't see them. You probably aren't the crack driver you think you are anyway, and neither are most other people. It would bother me and distract me from my driving and that's reason enough.
