Question regarding a memory

Hi guys,

I am putting a new system together, but cannot decide what kind of memory to choose. At first I just wanted to grab 2x512MB PC4800 from Adata.

However, after thinking about the subject I have got a feeling that 2x1024MB of PC4000 would suit me better.

The problem is that the biggest modules avialable at reasonable speeds seem to be limited, in size, to 512MB.

Thus my question is if you have ever heard about a manufacturer that produces 1024MB sticks at PC4000 or higher speeds?

Thanx in advance

Why are you considering PC4000+ memory? Are you a heavy overclocker?
Also, what kind of programs do you use primarily? You would probably benifit from the lower lat 2x512 sticks than high lat 1GB stick if you game a lot.

I thought that even low latency does not matter much as it used to if you are using an A64 processor, or am I mistaken?

For the OP, as the fastest FSB avialable for AMD still runs at a base 200mhz (400 effective so PC3200) pc4000 has alot of headroom, let alone 4800, why get so high? The only reason I see is if you want to do heavy FSB overclocking, don't most people do multipliers these days as it is generally safer for the system?

Doesn't even the new P4 that runs at 1000 FSB still use a base 200mhz fsb like their 800mhz "quad pumped" cpu's?

I do know there are alot of high end makers that do 1gig PC3200 modules that can handle a serious overclock, so why not consider them?

Well, I am going to buy AMD 64 3500+, and these processors have their multiplier locked (although you can lower it). I hope that with a good memory, I could overclock it to 2750 - 3000MHz when needed.

Get a 3200+ and G.skill LEs.

EDIT: Or PDP Patriot XBL, same chips same PCB, cheaper.

just buy some value ram, or non-fancy stuff, and you can get that OC easily.. Run a memory divider, this will not affect performance providing you are running dual channel.

I think almost all the 2-2-2-5 PC-3200 can be run @ 500MHz if you don't mind the price.
