Quick question on an ancient computer

Well, not really ancient, but old, regardless. It's an ALi chipset motherboard, I'm guessing probably a K62 or P~166MMX (heatsink is glued or epoxied). I've been asked to get it in working order.

All the drives, cards, and whatnot are hooked up correctly, but it won't post. The keyboard flashes, but that's it. No beep, no drive lights, just the fans going. With all the cards out and the drives disconnected, it does the same thing.

I'm thinking change the battery, but other than that, anyone have any suggestions? "Get a new computer" isn't really viable; this isn't my PC.

Going back older than yours,I used to work on some that had bios a that did not beep if the video card was defective. I think it operated under the pretense that if the monitor was not installed there was no reason to go any further..No beeps of any kind,just a power supply fan running. Hope this helps.

When I first put my P 133 together, the motherboard had everything set correctly but the voltage setting. It did not beep, nothing.
Double check if all the jumpers are set correctly.

Videocard not seated correctly is indeed another possibility, vetplus40, I had that happen to.
Faulty RAM back then typically did not completely impede the boot process.
