Got the chieftec case in today plus the blue LED fans. Can I test my fans with just the power suppply? Do I just need to plug the fans to the power supply?
That depends, If the fans have four pin connectors then yeah you can just plug them into the power supply and connect the green wire on the atx connector to one of the grounds.
I've always heard that you need to have a little bit more of a load on a PS, in order to run a fan. I would hook up an old hard drive to it too just incase.
(This was told to me by my friend. This might apply for older power supplies and not new ones.)

I'm sorry but I don't have the motherboard yet, I just have a case and the cpu. Is it possible to test the fans? If so how please I'm a beginer in pc building and the chieftec case that I just bought don't have a manual.
Exactly as I said before. If they are four pin connectors you can just hook them up to the powersupply and connect the green wire with on of the black. If they are 3 pin connectors then you will have to wait or get an adapter or if you have a fan controller that uses apower connection from your powersupply to power the fans then you can in almost the same way as if they connected directly to the powersupply.
And as to having to have a greater load, you will not be getting a very acurate depiction of how the fans will be working if you have a cheaper psu. If you have a very cheap 300w psu then you may eventually see sags in the powersupply and the fans will run a little slower but if you just want tto make sure they work then you don't need anything else hooked up to the psu.
thank you so much for explaining this to me. The reason that I have trouble with this is because I have a psu that is not working. No wonder the fans doesn't work. Thank you. I'll give newegg a call.
Based on reviews newegg is the place to buy for computer parts, but it is not as good as I thought. Bought the Chieftec, the psu is defective. Asked to return the powersupply first in order for them to send me a new one. Dell even send out the replacement first, then you can just send the defective back later. oh well.
