Quiet 6600GT?

I'm feeling the Leadtek, although people are saying the evga is also quiet, and the MSI is tolerable. This is only looking at the newegg comments, and I want some opinions besides "It's faster than my Ti4200!!"

Quietness is my prime concern here, although HDTV-out features are also good.

Any comments? I'm not willing to upgrade the fan after paying $180-200.

my roomate has the evga agp, and i had the evga pci-e. i popped in my spare x700 pro sapphire, because the evga was so annoyingly loud (and that was at the 2d low speed setting).

anyhow, i have yet to hear of a really quiet stock 6600gt card.

Buy.com has the gigabyte 6600gt agp back in stock. This is the passively cooled version that goes for more than Gigabyte's regular 6600gt offerings, so much more that the only vendor that had em was ZipZoomFly, which it charged $240 for. Quite a price premium, but Buy's price is ~220 with shipping. Ordered it earlier today..

To me, it's well worth the money to pay upfront for a quality card without f***ing up your warranty with after-market components. It's completely silent, too, as opposed to Arctic Silencer's fan solutions.

Oh yeah, I noticed that passive Gigabyte. Bit pricey; think I'll hold off for a week or 2 until I get more desperate Agree with you on the quality/warranty thing. LMK how it is, it looks awsome!!!

Well, I just replaced my PCIe Leadtek 6600GT (with a 60mm fan) with the Gigabyte SilentPipe fanless 6600GT.

All of the following numbers are approximate. The idle temp would fluctuate by about 2C, and the load temp is roughly the max I would experience, give or take a couple of degrees. The ambient room temperature was about 21C.

Leadtek
Idle: 40C
Load: 70C

Gigabyte
Idle: 53C
Load: 85C

There is no question that the fanless model runs hotter. It's also not really much of a surprise. I haven't had a chance to try any overclocking, but I'm not too worried about that. The PCIe Gigabyte model uses 1.6ns memory, and the memory comes clocked at 1120MHz out of the box. It looks like the AGP model is the same.

Got the card yesterday, installing to today, mwahaha!!!

Yup AGP should be the same except for a different HS (I guess to accommodate the PCIe-AGP bridge). Well, what am I doing, time to uninstall drivers!!!

LeadTek here. My hard drive is louder when it accesses. The LeadTek is almost dead silent.

Thanks Insomniak. That looks like a better deal for the price although the Gigabyte is great quality.

One problem - I didn't realize these were incompatible with AGP4x - DO'H!!!!

:disgust: :Q

I have the Albatron 845PEV Pro, not an ancient mobo, just uses 4x. So, I'm returning/selling a card, or else buying a motherboard.

Phaze: card looks great, maybe I'll post pics and a mini review (if I ever get to use it) since I haven't seen anyone else with the AGP ver of this.

Note, while the PCI-e version (supposedly) comes with Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising and Thief: Deadly Shadows, this card comes with some RPG I haven't heard of. Not that I know anything about those other two games

The card is quite feature-laden in terms of video in/out options, which is great....

Right? That's what I thought.... now i don't feel quite so stupid....
Lo and behold the Gigabyte user's manual says it needs an AGP 3.0 slot or better. My mobo's manual indicates it's a AGP 2.0 slot.

PC won't POST with vidcard in the slot. I may test it on a friend's just to make sure it's not a dud.

Any suggestions for a good yet ghetto-cheap Socket 478 mobo? The Albatron PX865PE / Pro would be a nice little direct upgrade for me...

argh........

Definitely a little more than I need to spend. I'll be keeping my 2.53 b.

Now I'm confused. To be honest, I'm on a k7s5a, and just installed the gigabyte AGP card no problem. Well, it works, and that's all I'm hoping for until I upgrade the rest of the machine.. I checked all the relevant manuals since you pointed out the different requirements..

indeed, the card specifies a "AGP 3.0 or higher" compliant motherboard, whereas my motherboard is 2.0 (4x speed...).. I guess I shouldn't complain, huh.

This site shows that there are physical differences between AGP versioned slots.. http://www.ertyu.org/~steven_nikkel/agpcompatibility.html

What this means to you or your situation... ??? sorry I can't be of more help =)
