Quiet GF4 cooler?

I'm looking for a way to quiet my Shuttle SB51G system. The loudest thing is my GF4 Ti4200's heatsink/fan. The stock one from Gainward is kinda loud, as is the Thermaltake GF4 cooler. Would a Crystal Orb be good enough to cool a Ti4200? Is there another cooler that's quieter?

Thanks,

Zalman has a heatpipe cooler ZM-80HP for video cards that doesn't require fan at all. Google for reviews.

Or you might do what I did: remove the stock fan and slap a quiet 80mm (12dB Papst for me) fan on top of the the video card.

how do you actually mount a 80mm fan on the video card? Is there a special mod you need to do, or can anyone do it?

you just get a bracket which attaches to the pci slot covers. The fan screws on the bracket.

The way I did was a little less sophisticated.

My MSI GeForce has by default a large heatsink that covers the gpu and memory chips that is almost precisely 80mm wide. So I removed the original fan and put some double-sided few millimeters thick tape of sorts in each corner of the fan and set it on top of the heatsink. Has been there for about 8 months now. Next best thing to a fanless video card. Dropped my video card temps by 7C.

Is there a pic of this anywhere?

Unless you have a case with a window, I would get creative and save some cash!!! Make your own fan bracket.

Get a couple of screw down PCI slot covers (The ones you tossed after putting PCI cards in your case. Most have a hole on the opposite end from the screw down side. Use 2 of them and bend the heck out of them making them flat (not "L" shaped.) Mount the fan with screws to the holes I was referring too. Slide the normal screw ends under 2 of the screws that hold down you other PCI cards.Cut a hole in the side of your case for air flow above the fan. Bend the homemade bracket so it will not interfere with you PCI cards and so the fan will be close but not touching the side of your case.

Hope that makes sense! If not, I will try to take some pictures of what I am talking about tonight if you want...
