A Seasonic X760 should be all you need even with OCing. It's fan doesn't even kick in until you hit 25-30% load so it should be dead silent while idling and still very quiet under load. I'm using an older model X750 to power my oc'd 670's and when gaming the only audible sound from the PC are the cards and they are very quiet ASUS DirectCU2 cards at that.

If you want more breathing room don't hesitate with any higher rated X-series Seasonics.

this item was on sale at newegg for 105 it is now 145.

http://www.amazon.com/SeaSonic-750W-...words=seasonic .

you could get away with a x650 or a x660 as long as you don't over clock at a crazy level.

if I had to order today right now I would order this

the 660 platinum

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151121

but I would do a gentle overclock with it.

10 percent on the gpu and maybe 4.0 ghz for the cpu .

If I ordered yesterday I would have purchased this unit on the sale

105 yes but at 149 no

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087&Tpk=seasonic x750

but i know seasonic i own 6 of them and have a seventh on order .

I also know a 660 watter will work on a gentle oc but not a crazy high oc.

if you never ever want the fan buy this one. below

http://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-PLAT...100635&sr=8-1&keywords=seasonic+platinum+1000

total overkill for you. I have two of these and run them with 3 hd7970's and still have left over power. in fact I had these running 4 hd7970's with a small under clock and all was good.

Interested in making a quiet pc with GTX 670 SLI.

Very likely the two graphics cards would be the noisiest part of your system. Probably any reasonably quiet 650W+ PSU with four PCIe power plugs would suffice.

If the price is similar I'd certainly go for the Gold. More power means you can put a larger load on it before the fan fires up, and the difference between gold and platinum is just a negligible increase in efficiency for the platinum, that you pay a whole lot more for.

I'm looking at the Antec CP-850 for $125 or the
Platinum 660 for $150 plus ten shipping, or the
X750 for $150 free shipping.

Looking for as quiet of an option as will suffice in terms of power.

CP850 will only fit a select few Antec cases.

$150 for 660W is just too much. For a 750W, it's a bit salty but sometimes justifiable. In your case the GPUs are probably going to be noisier than the PSU anyway. I'd get a Rosewill Capstone, ranging from 650W at $95 to 750-M at $120.

Would 650W be enough, a yes or no answer might be all I'm looking for(?)

I plan on upgrading to third party fans if I need to (and yes I suppose that could void my warranty, not something I ever even considered on my last machine where I learned that lower watts is always better for noise when 7v was for everything I didn't have a 5v connector for, can you like switch fans back if needed??).

Ideally my budget would be about 100 so this is going to hurt no matter how you swing it and I rationalize that if the PSU is quality and quiet that it's justifiable.

Would there be any noticeable benefit in going for the Gold 750 over say the Platinum 660?

Or gold 650 should be more than sufficient.

So a 670 maximum power = 170W
A second generation i5 or I7 OC about 140W
Other peripherals, etc. About 70W
= 550W with everything going full blast
If you are overclocking both 670 then that is maybe another 60W.

Realistically you will never be able to come near pushing everything at maximum load simultaneously.

So get something that comes near or above 650W on the 12V rail.
Make sure it has at least 4 PCI-E connectors

I understand that for terms of noise I would be better off with a lower power supply. It seems like if I were to OC I would be better off with 750 just in case but just in case may be an impossible situation.

You say that the SLI 2nd card is only about 60watt at full blast?
