You don?t need 550watts, not even for SLI. But for low noise and power Seasonic is what you want. How much power you really need depends on the cards and CPU.

I think the two are mutually exclusive

If you want silence, you'll more than likely lose performance

If you want performance, your psu will need more(and louder) cooling

If you want an SLI system, you have to be prepared to handle a louder system

Some good PSU are: PC P&C 510 SLI(expensive, but very good) and OCZ Powerstream 520W

That's not true, the biggest contributors to PSU noise is inefficiency and poorly designed fan controllers.

That PC P&C 510 SLI is actually quite loud.

Wow, very not true

The Seasonic S12 power supplies are dead silent and run at 80% efficency. Remember those super powerful supplies that need to be loud is because they need 2 fans to get rid of the wasted energy that results in heat. A 60% efficient power supply has to exhaust 20% more in heat which = more noise.

I never said it wasn't. The 510 Deluxe is loud mainly due to a poorly designed fan controller, at least from the perspective of noise output.

I would look hard at the Seasonic S12's probably the S12 500. You may be absolutely fine with the 430 though. The 430 is considered one of the quietest power supplies available (with active cooling).

I have the 430 and can't tell it's on over the retail fan from the A64 with my head right next to the powersupply with the case open.

For a 4000+ and two ultras though I think you'd want to go for the 600. It's only 10 bucks more than the 500 so might as well. The 430 might not be enough for you depending on what else you have in your system.

Seasonic 500 @ $152
Seasonic 600 @ $162

Seasonic S12. 80% efficiency, runs cool, vents well, THE quietest fan-cooled PSU on the market. Can't go wrong with a Seasonic.

Seasonic S12 is proven to be quiet. The 600W version is less quiet than the 430, but quite nonetheless for its class of wattage. Since the 600W costs marginally more than the 500W, if you want high wattage, and high efficiency, and low noise, take a look at the Seasonic S12 600.

Other options might be the Truepower II series by antec. BUt i havent found any reviews yet.

Search for posts on dual-rail vs. single-rail psus and SLI configurations. Some people have had problems with the dual-rail psus.

After doing a lot of research I decided on the psu in my sig. I'm sure there are other psus that can power an SLI system but for me it was worth spending a few extra $$ to know it would be enough. Why spend $1000 on video cards and $600 on a cpu only to turn around and scrimp on a psu.

The OCZ Modstream series is hands down the absolute best power supply I have ever worked with. It is beautiful. It is quiet. It has rock solid rails.

Remember that it is not always the amps stated on the rails, but also a function of how stable those rails are. I would take an OCZ with 28 amp 12V rail over a no-name with 40 amp rails. There is no substitute for quality!

OCZ Modstream 450
OCZ Modstream 520

There is a new OCZ Modstream 600 slated to come out soon.

I have Enermax Whisper II 2.0 SLI 535W and eventhough I can't compare it to other PSUs I would recomend it. It is quiet (my case fans are way louder even at 50% speed, they suck but still. Actually, I have to get my ear close to it to her it.) and it has plenty of cables that are long enough to hide in the back of a case and still reach everywhere without extension cables.

wow, thanks for the link, I was really considering the S12-430 as I don't like to spend over $100 on my PSU, but this is cheaper than newegg's price on the 430.

Ironically, the highest efficiency (over 86% efficiency), and quietest PSU, is provided by a fanless power supply, specifically the Antec Phantom 350. At present, however, it's only 350W and the only model out there. Hopefully, the Phantom 500 comes out soon.
