qx9650 not overclocking properly

i have a qx9650 running at 4.0ghz 10x multiplier and 400 fsb
It seems stable but after about 2 hours of 100% stress from chess software (rybka 3) it gives me errors and all my windows opened close automatically.

my cpu-z shows a 1.360 volts core voltage but in my bios i have 1.4000 cpu voltage.
i have the following specs etc..

qx9650 at 4.0ghz not stable
2x1gb gskill pc6400 memory
8800gts 320mb graphics card
p5n-t deluxe motherboard
ocz 700w powersupply
thermalright 120 heatsink with 3 noctua fans blowing on it
my temps in coretemp are around 32-35c idle and 55-65c full load.

any help is appreciated

i think its the mobo that is limiting the overclock..i have a P5N-D mobo and with it, i cant get my e7300 to 3.4ghz even at 1.36vcore..after switching the mobo to a P45 mobo(P5Q-pro) i can get my e7300 to 3.8ghz with 1.36vcore

i don't quite get what you mean by chipsets and north bridge nvidia nforce dual pci-e x16... Do you mean somthing is wrong with my chipset or my north bridge ??? thanks for reply

See if you LoadLine Calibration works. Enable that feature, it helps with Vdroop.

Also, disable Transaction Booster if that is an option.


Bump up your northbridge voltage. Those quads put a strain on the NB.

basically what he is saying is nvidia chipsets are inferior to intel chipsets as far as overclocking goes. you will rarely, if ever, get a CPU OC as high on an nvidia chipset as you will on an intel chipset, with all other conditions equal besides CPU multi, FSB, and NB voltage (NV NB chips have a different architecture and thus will use different voltages than Intel chips)
