R@pe at Astrodome

I helped someone move out of her apartment yesterday because it was right by the Astrodome. She is a med student and she went with some doctors to the Astrodome to help out. One of the doctors was raped, another assaulted. The news says alleged, but it happened. They probably don't want histeria from the public. Plus, there was a theft at the local drugstore the day after the people were settled in the Astrodome that is being investigated, and is most likely caused by the refugees. Am I the only one here that thinks this is getting ridiculous? Man, H-town's crime was not that bad for a big city before, but now, I think it is going to be terrible. I think anyone caught doing criminal activity in N.O. or as a refugee should get the maximum sentence, no questions asked.

I mean they are attacking everyone that is trying to help them.

Why do they not have some of the Nation Guard people station at the various places people are being shuttled to? This ia ridiculous. I heard on the radio they shot 4 people dead that were shooting at guardsmen. I cheered in my car on the wya to work this morning. I wisj they'd just shoot anyone doing crap like that.

I don't think it's that ridiculous. Think about it. You have 10,000 low class urban people jammed into a small space. It doesn't take a social science degree to know what will happen. You will have theft, rape, violence, etc... It's just the nature of people.

In a way I feel sorry for the law abiding residents of Texas that are being forced to absorb many of these refugees, many of which will have difficulty finding jobs and integrating in. In no way shape or form am I saying a different solution exists, or that race has anything to do with it. It has a lot more to do with socio-economic status. A lot of these people had difficulty finding jobs back in New Orleans, imagine how hard it will be for them in a foreign city with little to no support. Odds are they won?t be going back to NO to rebuild and the people of Houston will have to carry the burden of employment and a higher crime rate.

There were also 21 auto thefts centered around the Astrodome the day after all the NO people were brought here. Unfortunately we got the dregs of the earth from NO but what are we to do? These people need help and their state abandoned them. Texas is a generous state so we are going to bear the costs in many ways. I don't know the solution to this problem.

My GF's coworker's brother owns a warehouse for the distribution of retail goods. He loaded up one of his delivery trucks and went to the Astrodome the other day to donate all kinds of goods to help the victims of the hurricane. Three Black man approached him in the parking lot and asked for beer. He told them he had no beer as he was not an alcohol distributor. He offered to take them back to his warehouse where he could use their help and he would pay them so they could buy some beer. Their response was "We didn't work in Louisiana, what makes you think we are going to work in Texas?". He turned his truck around and went back to his warehouse, he is not going to donate anything now. Now I know that all the people we are housing from LA are not like this but a good proportion are so Texas is going to pay a heavy price for our generosity.

Harris County spokesman Gloria Roemer said the Command Center has not received any reports of sexual assaults at the dome.

The Houston Police Department said it has not received more than the usual calls from that area.

Roemer said the Command Center was told 100 prisoners might be among those evacuated.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said it heard that inmates from the New Orleans city jail were the ones released, which would mean they were serving time on misdemeanor and not felony charges.

Those folks who are not like that are going to get jacked (i.e. women and children)... tell your GF's coworker's brother to deliver the goods and stop being an arse.

Alot of things are in the natural of the human animal. That's why we have laws. That's what makes us more. That's what holds together our civilization. There is no justification for what these people are doing. If they want to acts like animals, we can treat them like animals.

Unfortunately a lot of these people do not care about laws. They have been sucking the welfare teet their whole lives and doing pretty much whatever they want in NO with impunity. I have friends in LA who have warned us of the type of people we are getting from LA. They are the people their own states does not even want. I realize there are some good people in the group also but overall Texas is going to suffer for it's generosity.

It isn't because they find it difficult to find a job. Just an easy job that they want. Anyone can work at a fast food restaurant, or bus tables, clean pools, or janitor (BTW I did 3 of these things in college, but I also have better paying jobs for internships because of my education, so it is a two way street). It is the fact that many in this socio-economic level have become too dependant on federal aid, and are too lazy now to help themselves. Why would someone getting a minimum wage job, when they can do nothing and get about half that amount for doing nothing? Most of my friends parents and my own parents worked extremely hard to become successful in America. Many came with one piece of luggage and nothing else. The only way to get out of the poverty line is to work hard. Pisses me off.
