Epic just finished making Gears of War which sold millions of copies and their UT franchise has done incredibly well.
can't really use GoW to compare; it sold 0 titles on pc. who's to say it would not have sold millions were it available?
still, ut2k3 was hardly a complete title, and was simply rehashed as ut2k4. was it fun? yea, i thought so, but that doesn't mean it wasn't simply a 6 year old UT rehashed... and if did so well on pc's as you state, how is pc gaming dying?
That's not even counting how well they've been marketing their Unreal 3 engine.
but that has nothing to do with the "death of pc gaming"; in fact ue3 is being used on pc games. at any rate, the fact they can program an "engine" doesn't change the fact they haven't released anything original on pc's in half a decade. my point is that the "horse's mouth" should be successful pc game developers, not those chose console cause they lacked any original ideas.
i have nothing against xbox, but with a few exceptions, if you want original console games/ideas, you need to go with wii. while they've certainly attempted to diversify a bit, xbox is still a realm for fps...
As for id, together with SD, they're introducing Quake Wars, released Doom 3 (for which I'm sure you've quoted benchmarks in your video card arguments)
quake wars is still a rehash of things id has done for the last 15 years, albeit with a slightly different format. time will tell if it's a good title or not, but it certainly doesn't signify they've done anything recently.
doom 3? how does a benchmarking tool quality it as anything more than that? some of it was okay, but it was hardly a breakthrough title.
and are set on releasing another engine and game soon. It could be argued that FPS gaming on the PC has thrived because of id and epic and their constant innovation with game engines. As for 3DR, they've worked in tandem with other studios and released Prey and Max Payne, two popular titles on the PC.
prey was popular? how old is max payne (tho i liked the first one)?
But don't let the facts get in the way of your taking jabs at industry leading developers. As for thread crapping, this thread went off course long before I showed up with GStanfor and Appopin attacking Ackmed, myself and others.
nothing you've stated contradicts what i said. all you've done is confirmed what i said, that these companies haven't done anything good for years...
and quality and originality notwithstanding, WoW has almost 10million subscribers (the exp almost 4m in a couple months), the sims/sims2 have sold over 10m copies on pc.
other games which have sold well on pc:
Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe - Microsoft
Medieval II: Total War - Sega of America
Battlefield 2142 - Electronic Arts
Age of Empires III - Microsoft
Company of Heroes - THQ
Neverwinter Nights 2 - Atari
Age of Empires III: WarChiefs Expansion Pack - Microsoft
Guild Wars Nightfall - NCSoft
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - 2K Games
no, pc gaming is far from dying, and the fact is good games still sell, regardless of platform... and notice none of the developers you mentioned have any games listed above. there's a reason for that...
