Racing Games on PC...

Do many of you guys play racing games on the PC?

If so, what wheel do you use?

If you have played on PC and Console, which do you prefer?

(this is NOT an "is a PC better than a Console" or vice versa argument, rather just asking for opinions for those who have played on both...)

Well, I'd answer you but we already have a dozen threads on this already.
Dig through the first page of the PC Gaming forum and you'll see plenty of discussions.

My fave is TDU.

LOL!

Call me a newb if you like, (I'm not on many other type forum), but I for one don't like all the thread searching. I mean if I joined your PC club and there was a meeting, all of us sitting around and I said, "so, do you guys like Nvidia or AMD better?" would you reply, "we have discussed this before, go read the meeting notes...?"

I'm not MAD and type this with a grin on my face...

Back on topic, I guess I'm trying to broaden my FPS gaming and driving seems kinda fun...

I still play GT Legends, GTR2, and rfactor. I have Rac07 and GTR Evolution, but I never really got into either of those. I've played Dirt2 and NFS:Shift; they're fun and look nice, but too arcade-y for me

I'm currently using a Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 wheel. I like the wheel, but I've had a lot of problems with it and I'm looking to get something else. I'm a cheap bastard, so I'll probably just get a DFGT.

I don't have any consoles so I can't compare.

I've been looking for a used MOMO or DFGT in my area for 4 months and haven't seen one yet.

Not that I agree with them, but they have rules here and believe me when I tell you they are enforced.

TDU 2 is coming out in Jan, but a lot of Beta testers say it stinks.

I play TDU, Dirt2, GTR2 on PC with Logitech G25 wheel. My G25 wheel also comes with a copy of rFactor that I haven't have time to try yet. I also have GT5P on PS3 but hardly play it. I might get GT5 when price is lower. I prefer racing games on PC for better looking graphics and cheaper game prices. Out of all racing games, the only ones that I've beaten were MotoRacer and Colin Mcrae 4. Those 2 were real fun.

Sorry if this has been answered, is there a wheel that will work with PC and Xbox360?

THanks!

Xbox wireless 360 wheel (very poor wheel IMO)
Fanatec Porsche 911 turbo S wheel
Fanatec Porsche GT2 wheel

You need to tell us whether you like sims, arcade games or something in the middle. Not to say a hardcore sim racer wont enjoy some Grid or burnout once in a while.

A lot of the games listed in you're other thread are cross platform. Personally I would prefer using a wheel on a PC so that there's a desk to mount it to. A computer chair is also more like a car seat than a couch.

If you want to race online a lot stick with PC racing sims. Too many douchebags on GT5 who want to play destruction derby instead. Maybe I'll wait until the novelty wears off and they move on to the next flavor of the month.

Both GRID and Need for Speed: Shift are awesome games to start out with if you're new to racing. Hell, they're both great games, period. Both are hybrids and have both heavy sim and heavy arcade elements. GRID is a little more arcadey than Shift.

Both phenomenal games and fun online, really Shift would be the perfect game (for me) if they'ed only take nitrous out of the online events, I hate that with a passion.

I use an XBox 360 controller for both, the Momo logitech wheel I had for awhile made it ten times harder to race competitvely online. Maybe my wheel was defective but it was terrible. It WAS fun with the wheel, but I was at a competitive disadvantage with it. My wheel was bought used off eBay so maybe it really was busted though...

i pretty much only play racing games or sports games on pc... i just use an xbox controller because i dont want to set things up all the time just to play a game. if i had a deticated room for this stuff i would go with a force feedback wheel though, because there is no comparison when you get into the highly technical games like F1 2010

speaking of, talk about a game that is HARD as hell to play with an xbox controller. i can usually do ok most of the race, but you have to be so precise its not even fun.

I think a question like this deserves a new thread if there's not a very recent one. The current crop of PC Racing games will continue to change, as well as available/compatible wheels, so resurrecting a very old thread might actually be counterproductive, as people would have to dig through a bunch of older and possibly now irrelevant info to get to current posts.

I'm not a mod, but I don't think OP is gonna get in trouble over this, it seems a fair question to re-ask at this time.

Weren't the Xbox 360 wheels catching fire at one point.
Well overheating anyway...

I wish some more major racing sims would come out for PC. Been a while since GTR2.

i have gtr2, gtr evo, race 07 and they are plenty stale. i had high hopes for f1 2010, but at launch it was a joke, and i haven't been back. i use a cordless rumblepad, but if i were to choose a wheel i'd probably get a fanatec. it seems there are slim pickings in the wheel market, maybe joysticks too.

I still play LFS from time to time, as I'm fairly good in it. No other game has captured my attention, very good physics, great online play (used to be...) and lfsworld stats/info site is awesome. It's a bit dated, this is the "used to be..." part as there have been few updates in the last like 5 years and many people lost interest. Graphics is DX8 and was never its strong point, but I don't particularly care for it.

Grid and NFS are not sims, period. Race On and GTR2 seem popular among some of my simracing friends.

iRacing is probably the best one for sim racing right now, and it's marketed as pro sim racing (lots of well known real life drivers, esp. from Nascar are members, laser scanned tracks, centrally organized leagues with prizes, wheel is required etc). The only reason I don't play it is that I don't have enough time to justify paying monthly subscriptions, and the core game has a couple cars and couple tracks, everything else is additional content they charge for. The charging model is simply not my cup of tea...

I have a Logitech G25 wheel, had Logi Momo before that, only PC, no consoles.

I personally like arcade style racing games like NFS series. Heard Dirt series also pretty fun to play.
