What is the difference between a non engineering ssample?

How did you get an engineering sample? Those are usally kept in the company and used for testing. I know Intel CPUs that are engineering samples are unlocked, not sure if there is anything like that with video cards.

I think they dont have the rage theater thing for video decoding and stuff.

It doesn't have ViVo. That is basically the only difference.

AFAIK all the "engineering sample" 64MB cards had the 6ns, 166MHz DDR- the retail cards originally had 5.5ns 183MHz RAM

Untrue. I had 3 of the ES and they ALL had -55.
