I bought my 9800 AGP(4x/8x) back in 1999 (i think) for around $200. Its getting old, the fan is loud and on its last legs, so I'm looking for what a good replacement/small upgrade would be for this card.

Really just looking for ideas right now. I've been out of the market for a card so long that its completely passed me by.

So to summarize what im looking for, current medium range AGP card in the range of $200-$250.

Also, does anyone know where i can maybe get a replacement fan for my 9800?

-Thanks!

7800GS, x850xt, 7600GS . . . all will give you a substantial imporovement over your current card . . . like twice as fast

and you can buy a VGA cooler for your 9800p if you are satisfied with it and perhaps want to wait to upgrade your rig to PCIe

X800XL, X850XT are both reasonable options. I believe the X800XL is on sale from NewEgg, but I'm not sure and I don't feel like looking.

It depends, your CPU might be slow enough that an upgrade would only allow the use of newer features (SM3) and not necessarily greater performance.

And on a side note, it definitely was not 1999, 2000 was the year of the R100 (the very first Radeon). 2002 was the Radeon 9700...so 2003 is most likely the year of your 9800 - especially for a $200 price.

More like 2003, rofl. Any card you get now would be more than a 200% improvement. I'd heartily recommend a 7600GS if you really want to stick to the AGP route. Or, after rebate, you can get the AGP supercard, the 7800GS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130269

Yea, 1999 didn't seem right...thanks for the correction.

I'll probably look into the 7800GS.

Thanks for the replys (and correction )
