planning 2 get a 9800xt but unsure which manufacturer gives better performance.
i have read some good reviews about sapphire but i got some bad experience with one of their products.
i have a sapphire 9800pro all-in-wonder sitting right next 2 me.
(it gives me corrupt pictures and i'm planning to return it to the retailer... but i got it from overseas )
is it just becos of the model or are thir products buggy?
ASUS' card looks cool... but they just started making radeon products...
just wondering if any1 has tried it

thx

i like the look of the asus card but usually they are quite a bit more than the sapphire, personally i woulfdnt pay the extra $$$$

on a side note, the 9800 pro @ $200 is a much better buy

You should wait. Very soon there will be cards that make 9800XTs seem old, slow, and overpriced.

Thank you for the replies.
I wont mind paying a bit xtra as long as it performs flawlessly.
9800pro seems to be sufficient for me cos i only generally play real-time strategy games such as WarCraft.
but the HL2 coupon is kind of a bonus ^_^
regarding the wait.... how long will that be?
cos i am currently using the lowest possible vga there is
a PCI radeon 9200
and i cant settle playing on 800x600x16 res
i'm actually planning to get the card tomorrow ^_^
I have been readin the issue bout PCIexpress.
but would the 1st release be more powerful than a 9800xt?

I am owner of ATI 9800 XT.
Dont buy XT buy 9800 PRO 256 MB or wait for R420 couple of month because XT is same as 9800 PRO.

R420 is still an agp card isnt it?
what games have u tried on your 9800xt?
is there flaw in it? i'm more interested in XT cos it looks heaps nicer ^_^
in any case, i only need a card that could last me for another 8-10 months
and also i dont play that much variety of games
probably the next one i'll play will be world of warcraft and possibly farcry
regarding the issue thingy.... issue = subject/matter
not problems.... sorry to make u confused ^_^

The wait will be less than 6 weeks for nV40s, most likely. They're supposedly in production now.

Yep, and if you don't like the looks just buy a Giant III or any other aftermarket cooler and you're done with VERY similar performance (even better if you overclock it above XT speeds) and much cheaper.

Clearly the person already made a decision on card... If he's willing the spend the money for a little more performance it's his choice. I personally like Asus cards better they put some extra effort into the cards design rather then just going with the default.

Dont sure what you mean by flaw.
Ok about games i run farcry just nice but not on full detail because then it gets laggy, also Half-Life 2 i tryed alpha and fps was not like i expected about ~40. And all reviews on www,tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com say that prefermance increase is about 5 % and thats true because its just overclocked version of 9800 PRO i think to that if i buy newest card it will be best and so on but it was wrong i spens so much money on it about 550 $ but in real i could buy 9800 PRO for 350 and it was same speed.
But if you still want buy xt then buy Asus because it have tv tuner.

Also R420 is agp card and r423 is PCIexpress its same card just different verasions.

I agree. BTW, c0oKi3, how much do you have to spend on a card?

I'm living in aus rite now and its AU$765 maybe i can get AU$30 cheaper from the computer fair
so it'll be around US$560 (for the asus 9800xt)
i kno it cost significantly a lot more then in the states
looked at the newegg link that Schadenfroh posted
210 for a pro!!! :Q

ASUS 9800xt have a tuner? really? i tot only all-in-wonders have them.
and currently there are no 9800xt aiw. there is a 9600xt aiw tho.
hmm.... if its true, it'll be even better
in that case it can be a replacement for my non-working-9800pro aiw
(minus the remote wonder)
but i doubt it... i've checked there website n it doesnt seem to mention anyth bout a tuner.
where did u get the info from?
does yours have 1?

a guy at a local computer store (computer boulavard) said that sapphire and ATI cards get shipped from the same factory. They are almost the same card (different cooling i think). I would go with Sapphire on this one.

http://www.asus.com/products/vga/r9800xt/overview.htm
Here in table you can see that "ASUS ATI Radeon 9800 XT/TVD" (dunno what is TVD) have Multi-Video in/TV out adaptor.
Wow asus have Radeon's 9800 PRO to now. Now look at the rest of table only difference in XT from pro is 412MHz to 380 MHz for GPU and 730MHz to 680MHz for memory which is NOTHING in real world preformance and cool new look of xt is just more powerfull cooler they use because they overlocked the card.

Dammit i was so stupid that i buy XT anyone can buy pro for half of xt price and have same preformance as me.

P.S you can get Half-Life 2 with ASUS 9800 Pro to.

You can buy XT about 100$ less in next month when r420 is out so i recomend you to wait.
Also preformance with 9800 XT is not @ level i expected therefore r420 is best buy, because its out in 1-2 month and after this there will be 12-18 month (not 6-12) before new video card as some site say.

Yes the "built by ATi" cards are actually produced by Sapphire.

And no ones gonna tell the poor guy hes looking at about 3fps going from a R9200 to a R9800XT?

And depending on his system he may not see an increase at all, except if he wants to run AA.

Nice joke, actually 9800 XT works like ~3-4 times faster than 9200.

Where you found his spec?

Whats an AA?
I just bought my system recently. I dont really understand that much about computer hardwares.
But i think it should be able to support a 9800.
Here's the specs for my system:

P4 3.2C
Abit IC7-MAX3
Corsair TWINX 1024-3200LL
Seagate HD 120G SATA
Antec 430W PSU

btw i've tried to look for an asus 9800pro
cant seem to find it here
i've checked the price for a gigabyte 9800pro tho
not much difference from an xt
9800pro 256MB AU$640
9800xt AU$785
if its 1/2 the price, i'll definitely go for the pro but...
anyway, should i save $145 n get the pro
from the asus website i noticed that the xt have a Multi-Video in (whatever that is ^_^) that the pro does not
but from the picture, the card for a pro is exactly the same as an xt
i tot the xts are supposed to have much better cooling
also... how powerful is R420? is it better than 9800xt? and how much memory will it have?
