Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 400 that came with a Western Digital 160 GB HD. I just bought a second WD 160 GB HD, the exact same model number. I want to configure them to RAID 1. I installed the second drive, I enabled it in the BIOS, I enabled RAID in the BIOS too, no problems with any of that. After that I went to the Intel Matrix Storage manager and from there to the ?Action? drop-down menu and selected ?Create RAID volume from existing Hard drive?. O.K, no prob to that point either. I selected RAID 1, then chose the original drive as the ?Source? then chose the new drive as the one to migrate to. Then I clicked next. It tells me that the source drive is a ?Dynamic? drive and to change it to a ?Basic? drive in the disk management console. Well when I go the console and right-click on the ?source? drive (my original drive) it has the option to ?Convert to Dynamic Disk?. There?s nothing there to change it to basic. And if it were a ?Dynamic? disk would it still give me the option to ?Convert to a Dynamic Disk?? I don?t have any idea what to do next. So far I changed the BIOS back to non-raid configuration (Is it bad to leave it set up as RAID in the BIOS if I don?t have the drives configured to RAID?) until I could figure it out. I would really appreciate ANY help at all here, I really am stuck. Thank you very much.
