Probably the best thing I ever heard a rapper talk about is how these other guys always rap about the problems, but never about any solutions. Unless the verse about shooting each other was their solution. In that case, you could call them prophets. I won't shed a tear for these fools, they literally ask for it.

Anyways.......aside from folks trampling on the grave of a dead man, they didn't even know.....

Deshaun Holton, aka Proof, was someone that people in Detroit give credit to as being a HUGE part of Detroit-Hip Hop emergence. in the movie 8 Mile, he was basically Mekhi Phifer's role as Future (the MC at the rap battle club). without Proof, there would be no Eminem. The dude stuck to his roots in Detroit and all the local people i've seen interviewed said he was never a "i'm better than you" type of guy. he was approachable and always spoke with fans. Now, i won't ever do justice to the man's life, because i admittedly knew little about him before his death. but from what i read about him, he did good work putting Detroit on the map as a hip hop breeding ground. so go ahead, disrespect the man's memory and continue being ignorant. or you can actually open your mind and learn about the man and his life's work.

if not, grow the fvck up and troll somewhere else.

Alot of people.

I went to see GZA perform on a tuesday just last month.

Are you thinking of the RZA? Or are you saying someone GZA'ed in your mouth that night

If you don't know who GZA is then it's probably best you don't comment on anything related to hip hop from this point on.

So there is a rapper named GZA? How retarded can you be? Not only would you blatently steal the title type from tha RZA, but you would actually call yourself the gizza?

I don't know why that suprises me - rappers make a living off stealing work from other artists. Kind of like its not suprising when one of them dies from a gunshot wound to the head.

I'm being serious here now, thanks for the link. I used to listen to the Wu Tang clan, but I didn't know about the GZA. Makes sense, and thus I conceide defeit. I was always a fan of some of there stuff, still like the 36 chambers disc's - back when hip hop was actually good. Shame its gone to sh!t since those days, for me any way.

Only part of this thread I agree with heh, I think Puff Daddy and Mase, specifically Harlem world was the start of the downfall for hip hop (see shiny clothes and money became the new thing) and than Cash Money (see Bling Bling ect) was the catalyst that finished off the demise. Before that people actually had something to rap about, than throw in Cash Money, and the rest of the southern twang rappers who came up talking about nothing but cash and ice and you had the demise of a music that once could stand for something.

lots of people in this thread envious that their over all contribution to the world is going to be so meaningless that when they die they wont even make the headlines in a local paper.

An altercation inside a Detroit nightclub led to the death of D-12 rapper Proof after an argument allegedly turned into a gunfight, leaving a bouncer wounded, according to sources.

A source that requested anonymity told AllHipHop.com that Proof was in the club after-hours when a heated verbal argument between Proof and a bouncer allegedly broke out and escalated.

Proof was shot and killed around 4:30 am on April 11 and the bouncer was seriously wounded, both with gunshots to the head.

"Proof knocked dude down and stood over him with gun in hand," a source close to Proof told AllHipHop.com. "Proof shot first. The bouncer on the ground didn't shoot Proof another bouncer did. Proof was shot 4 times. Twice in the head and twice in the chest/stomach area."

Police have identified the second man as 35-year-old Keith Bender.

Bender is alive, but is still in critical condition.

"Dude [Bender] is on life support and not expected to live at all," the source continued.

Investigators are still trying to piece together details of the shooting but have stated they believe two guns were used in the shooting.

According to sources, Proof was licensed to carry his weapon.

Officers have frequently been called to the club, taking 18 incident reports since 1996.

The club was raided in December of 2005 for selling alcohol to minors and Proof's murder was the third time a shooting had occurred at or near the club.

"All this s**t is senseless and real f**ed up. Proof was a longtime friend who wouldn't stay the f**k out the hood. To many jealous people in the hood mad cause you made it.

"8 Mile [road] near Hayes on Detroit's Eastside at 4 am in the morning? That Triple C spot always has drama up there. Why was he there?" the source continued.

The police questioned one witness in the case and seek to speak to others to find suspects.

The club did not have a video surveillance system police, officers revealed.

Proof served as Eminem's best man in the rapper's short-lived wedding to Kim Mathers.

The rapper, whose real name is Deshaun Holtoon, leaves behind five children

I like the quote about not glorifying him....it sounds like he knocked a dude down and pulled a gun on him....it wasn't like someone just ran up and shot him..

"AS fans of D12's Proof gathered Tuesday night outside the CCC Club along East Eight Mile Road, where they've erected a makeshift memorial, details continued to emerge about the slain rapper's final moments, the shooting's other victim and the club where the fatal incident occurred.

On a telephone pole in front of the nightspot where 32-year-old Proof (real name: DeShaun Holton) ? a founding member of Eminem-fronted Detroit hip-hop collective D12 ? was shot and killed at approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, fans left stuffed animals and personal messages to one of the city's most prominent rappers (see "Proof: 'Eminem's Best Friend' And A Vital Member Of Detroit's Hip-Hop Scene"). According to The Detroit News, "RIP Proof" was scribbled in red ink at the bottom of the club's sign. The CCC Club was closed Tuesday night while police continued to comb for evidence and clues.

According to a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department, Proof suffered a gunshot wound to the head at the club (see "D12's Proof Shot And Killed At Detroit Club"); he was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John Holy Cross Hospital. A second victim, who has been identified as 35-year-old Detroit resident Keith Bender Jr., remains in critical condition at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. He also sustained a gunshot to the head.

Police were dispatched to the scene a little after 5 a.m. The club ? which was operating illegally, after hours ? had been cleared out by the time they'd arrived. The club did not have a video surveillance system. Several witnesses have come forward to discuss the incident with investigators, but police had no suspects Tuesday night. According to a Detroit police spokesperson, "an altercation occurred [inside the club], and shots rang out;" police located several shell casings in a parking lot across the street from the club.

Remembering Proof
"This is a sad ending to a great career that was just getting started. He will be missed."

The CCC Club has been a troubled spot for more than 10 years, according to police spokesman James Tate, who told the The Associated Press that officers have responded to 18 incidents there since 1996. The most recent visit by police came back in December, when members of the city's vice squad raided the bar and slapped its owners with six violations, most for serving alcohol to minors.

Several of Bender's relatives spoke with The Detroit News, claiming that Proof shot Bender, and was then shot by someone else. The paper reports that Detroit police confirmed that account, but have not provided additional details. "Some words were exchanged. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time," Bender's sister-in-law Angel Bender told the News. "We're still putting the pieces together."

Bender, relatives said, was a retired Army staff sergeant, and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Both he and Proof were at the CCC Club with friends, police confirmed. Authorities have not released any information on what may have led to the altercation, but believe two guns were used during the shooting.

According to ABC News affiliate WXYZ, Bender's brother, Kyle, was one of the many visitors to the CCC Club Tuesday night. "What I don't want to happen is for [Proof] to be glorified as another fallen rapper hero," he told them. "It's senseless violence that's right here in our community and we can't get rid of it."

"I just don't know how to feel right now," D12's Denaun Porter, known within the group as Kon Artis, told the Detroit Free Press. "It's crazy because we're suffering all these losses. We lost Bugz," an original member of D12 who was shot and killed in 1999 during a picnic at Detroit's Belle Isle Park. "Now we lost Proof. I just don't know, you know what I mean? We're all so messed up. Whatever happened, whoever this dude is, is still around. This is just crazy."

Memorial service arrangements have not been announced. The Associated Press reports that Proof's family and friends gathered inside a home on Detroit's Northwest side Tuesday afternoon. Proof is survived by his wife and five children."

Rappers are dime a dozen. They will find some one. Like someone said, life goes on. D-12 will make music, money and will start working on their album right after the funeral

Proof Slay Suspect Turns Himself In
Police say rapper shot first, victim's cousin may have retaliated A suspect in the murder of rapper Proof -- the D12 rapper and longtime friend of Eminem who was fatally shot during a shootout Tuesday at Detroit club CCC -- turned himself in to police for questioning Wednesday afternoon.
Mario Etheridge, 28, a bouncer at CCC, located on the city's famed Eight Mile strip, met with police accompanied by a lawyer. Etheridge is the cousin of Keith Bender, 35, who police say the rapper shot at the club after an argument over a pool game.

Authorities have now also determined that it was Proof who fired the first bullet.

Proof was among the most revered MCs in Detroit and befriended fellow Motor City rapper Eminem before joining Em's rap troupe D12. He released his solo debut, Searching for Jerry Garcia, last summer on his independent label Iron Fist Records.

Memorial service arrangements are still pending
