Rapydmark on non-x86 hardware

Got Rapydmark running through CrossOver on MacOS Ventura on the M1 Macbook Air.



Posting the Low score coz emulation is slow. From the test that errored out to Memory Compress/Decompress, it has a pretty hard time running through the emulation layer.

Saw that an upgrade was available in system updates so here's what I got with MacOS 15:



Yeah, so the new OS is faster. Confirmed that with GB6, scores of which will be posted in the GB6 thread.

Tips on running through CrossOver:

Install x86 vcredist into a Win10 bottle. Then open the bottle's drive and paste the Rapydmark files into some folder. Click run on the bottle screen and choose Rapydmark.exe and it will run fine. The 64-bit executable crashes hard but feel free to figure out how to make it run.

Hope folks with M2, M3 and Snapdragon Elite X will post their results.

I wonder instead of using Wine, can we run it via Windows 11 ARM in a virtual machine?

Maybe we can test once Microsoft releases the win11 ARM ISOs. This version should also include Prism.

An interesting observation. When running Rapydmark on typical x86 hardware, some threads prominently lag behind the other threads. These weaker threads are either SMT virtual threads or E-cores like the ones in Alder/Raptor Lake. What was perplexing for me was that in many tests, the 4Ps and 4Es of M1 are almost indistinguishable. Either in some instructions, both core types in M1 have similar instruction throughput or Apple Silicon is designed to hold back the P cores during extremely threaded workloads to avoid letting the P cores finish work early and then just sit idle. <<< Just my theory, though.

@poke01 , when are you receiving your M4 baby? Will you be able to run the same three tests in CrossOver so we can see if Apple has fixed something or added supporting instructions in the new silicon to let emulation work better?

Feel free to abort if the Medium test starts going above 400 secs. Just let me know which test it was on when you aborted.

May take a few tries to figure it out but you should be able to get it running in less than 30 minutes. For me, the x86 Rapydmark executable runs fine but x64 one crashes.

CPU wise barely any difference likely due to the fact the clock is stuck at 2.5GHz and other bottleneck factors. I got 64-bit app working just need install x64 vcredist.


but GPU perf improved a lot for the 3D catherdral test due to massively improved GPU cores. Look at the FPS difference between M1 and M4. :O
