So who's going to buy one? I'm buying the $35 version. Amazing little cheap device. XBMC and Air Play works. So does 1080p. It's better version of AppleTV at 1/3 the cost.

Better is a relative term. Its more nerd friendly, and probably more satisfying to get working the way you want, but I wouldn't say better.

Cheaper though. I want to buy one to hook to a couple of webcams set up for motion sensing.

Right now I'd say it's about like the first androids.. Completely suck and only worth it for the novelty value.

woudlnt this make it like almost any piece of tech?

i mean if you use an original iphone right now, you could probably say the same thing since it would be horrible to use today.

its basically a roku that will have a development community. for $35 i'm pretty sure ill get one.

No I only say that about other pieces of tech when they are below a standard of reasonableness, which this is.

As for 1080p Meh, arm demoed their 100$ board
for us in 2009. It did 1080p and that's it. Even opening "System" in ubuntu was extremely laggy and the mouse rendered at about 15fps. Don't get your hopes up.

so you are basing your assumptions off of a demo that was in 2009?

say what? Did you even watch this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4NR57ELY28s

That's freaking impressive. I have three AppleTV2 in my house running XBMC. AppleTV2 will play 1080p content but output it to 720p. Pi will do full 1080p.

the hardware is exactlyt he same as a roku 2. it has a very beefy decode / 3d core relative to its CPU and its easily on the apple TV level. i'm not sure it will be running full on ubuntu desktop or anything, but on a computer basis its probbly fairly close to something like a computer form the year 2000 which is still plenty useful.

i'm looking forward to buying one putting it in a tiny $5 case, and being able to browse the web on my tv as well. I mean sometimes you just want to browse the web on your big ass tv even if it cant run flash or something.

Heh, I said the same thing about the original iPhone even back then.

I'm very interested so I'm following this closely. Most likely I'll get one of these if not the next iteration.

There's been lots of delays, but mine will be arriving on Monday. I'm chuffed to bits. I'll let you guys know how I get on with it (don't have a clue how to use Linux, so its a big learning curve for me)

Let us know how it works out. If it can be easily set up with everything then it could be a nice competitor to Roku/aTV. The real question will be how well Netflix works on it. Also, if you have an iDevice, if you could test out AirPlay as well.

Will do. It will probably be a couple of weeks before it is set up as I have to modify the cabling and case, which I bought for it. I'm hoping that as more and more people receive the R-Pis in the next week or two, there will be idiot's guides written for the S/W side.

I actually like this more than Raspberry Pi. Pi is neat, but there's a lot of tweaking and adjusting you'll need to do. Its a nerd product, not a mass market product. Cotton Candy is a computer on a stick. I want one.

Pretty neat, but kind of expensive. If you don't mind something a little bigger, there are a lot of different Linux plug computers that can be had for around $100 or less.

I'm getting two (1 now, 1 later on) and am going to build a PMP with it. There's some reasonable 4"+ touchscreens available, just waiting for a good 720p screen and I can get to work.

Mind if I ask what you have in mind for cabling and case? Haven't seen a whole lot of attention upon Pi enclosures up to this point, other than a Lego case.
