I won't be building this myself. I'll probably take it to circut city or PC club to get it built (unless you guys know a better outlet.)

What do you think? This is my first gaming PC ever. I've been using a 4 year old refurbished HP s**t house for games like BFV and BF1942, and they barely run at low settings.

edit: Damn, this new forum template runs really slow.

Why is newegg doing this to me??

I made this list public but it still won't share!!!!

It says it shared....does it take time for newegg to register it or what????

way to early to make a list for September, and even if you were buying now you can get better performance for the same money.

What do you suggest?

Someone mentioned 3.75 out of 10. Wow.

I'm only going to be playing the battlefield series, and maybe counter-strike. Maybe.

You can spend an extra $40 for an 8800 gts. You can spend the same amount on a nice p35 board. You can spend an extra $35 (starting july 22) on an e6550. keep checking newegg's ddr2 area, I found 2x1 gb of crucial ballistix pc 8500 for 89.99 after mail-in rebate the other day. So, basically, you could not even look at problems with any of your other components and get a great, modern computer for the same price instead of a model based on technology that is 18 mos out of date. At least, I think that's what blain meant by 3.75/10.

So aside from the VC, RAM, and mobo, everything is fine?

How does that warrant a 3.75 out of 10?

Why buy an AMD rig in September? C2D or even Core 2 Quad would be a much better buy, especially with all the price drops.

core 2 duo. K10 may be out by September as well as new intel chips and new intel motherboards so its a bit early to plan. but if it were now id go for a P35 based motherboard and probably an e4300 or e4400. The 8800gts is a must though. I wouldn't bother with the sound card. Integrated is decent enough unless you have a Very high quality sounds system then it might be worth it. You can get cheaper ram for less. Id also looks for a better power supply as well for that high end of a system. So how old will you be in September? pc club would probably do it but keep in mind they will probably charge you alot.
Ill give you 60% for the fact that it works.

Planning a system build 3 months before it's to be purchased isn't practial, especially with all the talk of price drops. By the time you're ready to buy, he list you've configured probably would be a 3.75 out of 10 as far as value and performace go. It would make more sense to plan the build the month or week of purchase.

AMD is probably gonna cut prices AGAIN at the start of july. If you are not gonna overclock you should a way cheaper mobo, and am2 is still a good choice then compared to c2d. Pair it with a x2 6000+, theyll come dirt cheat in september, and with a 8800gts, and you'll be fine for another 3 years. But trying to figure stuff out by now is a waste of time. Just decide how much you wanna spend, come back at september, and ask us what we would do with that kind of money, and you'll have yourself a build in less then an hour, for really good prices, if you can order from newegg that is. If you got a friend that can put it together for ya, it be even better ...

just skimmed the OP. too hard to read. u need to simplify that so us readers can see it easily. from what i saw i'd rate it a 2 of 10.

-don't start chosing out ur parts to buy in 4 months. start chosing in sept if u want want to buy on sept 25th
-am2 gets crushed by c2d (yes, even in sept)
-nvidia 7950gt is slow now, and even more so in sept
-TT products are crap (yes, even their case's)
-wtf is EPower
-most people are wanting to get SATA optical drives now, and u want to get a IDE burner in Sept? lol

my head hurts from looking through your OP to find what parts ur getting.. reconsider ur build completely

qft, if you're going to buy things in september, look then, as prices will have dropped for a variety of components.

Actually, PC club only charges $100 for full installation (including O.S).

My local circut city charges $350!!! Can you believe that??

Anyways, I might just have you guys pick out the parts for me. The budget I was hoping for is 1,000 max, which includes O.S and all the other goodies.

In addition to the gaming parts, I'll also need memory card readers and other must-have educational accessories (which can be a lot).

I'll probably have you guys pick at the parts. You're clearly more knowledgeable about computers than I am.

I really appreciate the responses.

This might seem off-topic, but I just replaced my viewsonic moniter with the same model (dead pixels.)

I can't seem to figure out the proper contrast/brightness. At the moment I have 64/100 contrast and 100/100 brightness.

What's the common configuration?? I forgot my previous settings. I'm having difficulties adjusting to the s**t visuals.

Help?

This is driving me insane.

Is my computer supposed to run slower with a new moniter? It's the same one I had before.

Please help me.

Why are you hijacking your own thread? If you have a question about your monitor, create a new thread.

That said, the very fact that you're trying to decide what you're going to buy in September when it's only June means your list gets a 0/10. You simply don't plan that far ahead. I mean... I don't know if you're new to the PC hardware situation, but it's constantly changing. As in, it's changing way too quickly to try to decide what you're going to do months in advance. You decide weeks in advance, at most.

Come back in the end of August.

I'm having difficulties adjusting the contrast/brightness.

I loved my previous settings, but I can't seem to remember them (it's the same moniter, btw.)

Suggestions?

OP, come back and post a "how do i build computar" thread on the 15th of September. Start by suggesting you want a Core 2 Quad Q6600 because they're $266, you want an 8800GTS and a P35 motherboard (screw SLI), and need some recommendations. Seriously that's the best you could do right now. Don't even bother planning given the amount prices will change, and the fact that you could do better with a Q6600.

you're picking a POS PSU to run all your expensive hardware. On top of it probably not booting, if it does it might last a while before it takes all your expensive hardware with it when it goes.

just something to think about when you build a rig.

NEVER EVER EVER SKIMP ON THE PSU EVER.

you are only asking for trouble.

its better to buy a lesser CPU or mobo to make up for the cost of a GOOD psu

good is: thermaltake toughpower series, PC&C cooling, seasonic, enermax, silverstone

TT might have one good case, the tai chi

and their toughpower PSU's are top of the line, there is no doubt about that. it doesnt matter how biased OP are about them, its the truth. every tech website including jonnyguru's site says the same thing, they rock.

anything else made by them is junk though.

Thanks a lot guys, you've really helpful.

The only games I will be playing are BF2, BF2142, and whatever the next DICE game is.

Take into consideration that my PC won't just be for gaming.

So I guess this is what I need:

2 (maybe 3) gigs of ram - $100 or less

Nvidia graphics card - $250 or less

mobo - $150 or less

CPU - $200 or less

PSU - $100 or less

Case (don't need anything flashy, although a little style would be nice) - $150 or less

HD (250 gigs minimum) - $100 or less

CD/DVD burner (this is where I'm LEAST educated on. I'm not sure if I need two drivers or one) - $100 or less

Everything else (surge protector, flash drive, floppy drive, additional internal USB ports, etc..) - $100 or less

moniter (19' minimum) - $200 or less

OS - Windows XP professional. whatever that cost...

keyboard, mouse, games, etc - $100 or less

Labor to build computer - $150
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prefered total - $900 - $1,200
In addition to this, I also have to buy a desk and chair, as well as a total room cleaning.
I don't know how much that will cost, but at least $300.
The price isn't that big of a deal, but I need to make sure I have everything because my grandmother likes to order things all at one time.
That's why I thought I should get the parts ready now. But clearly it was wrong for me to do that.
