I use fly powered R/C aircraft and do competion acrobatics and pylon racing (top 5 in WA state 3 years in a row)....here's my input on this plane.
My former instructor had a 6yr-old son, and something like this was great. He'd toss the plane, fly it upward, then let his son hold the controls. (Dad would be behind him with hands ontop of son's to help guide him.......
Anyways, the batteries quickly faded out, and the plane glided back to earth....about a 15min flight total. They'd grab another pack of batteries from quick-charger and send the plane up again.
Also, in response to question above about putting wheels on this plane.....it's not necessary unless you're going to be landing on coarse asphalt. The plane is very light, and usually has a scuff guard (plastic strip) under the nose to asorb abrasions.....landing on grass or dirt shouldn't be a problem.....landing speed will probably be under 7mph....heck, you could probably even have a friend catch it.
So IMHO, this would be a good gift to see if a child wants to be a "pilot".....spending under $100 is much better than spending hundredes only to find out they don't like it.
My $.02 of info.
