With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

Not all that strange. The 5070 Ti has a 3% higher price than the 9070 XT which coincides with the average performance difference that TPU found between the two in their test suite of 25 games. It's 3% at 1080/1440 and 4% at 4K.

NVidia might be able to get away with a bit of a premium at MSRP due to perceived or actual brand value and feature set, but that appears not to hold at the market price for whatever reason.

It could certainly be that the market views FSR4 as good enough that NVidia isn't worth the premium or that that people paying for these cards right now don't value much outside of raw performance so neither company is seeing any added value from their extras. There could be other reasons as well, but it would just be further speculation to explain why after the fact.

Part of it could be the bad publicity Nvidia has gotten the last few months with power connectors and wonky drivers. Maybe those Nvidia extras that folks are normally willing to pay higher prices for don't outweigh the possibility of one of those issues cropping up? 🤔

They actually seem to this time. Nvidia's image has taken a hit with the 5000 series. That helps explain the AMD sales/prices. THese aren't the days when people are buying 3060's over 6600's at the same price.

Frankly it's mostly due to supply issues.
If Blackwell launched in volume at close to SRP, nothing would've happened.

THese aren't the days when people are buying 3060's over 6600's at the same price.

I think they still do and it'll be evident by 5060 8G sales.

You can find 5070 in stock at MSRP but very few 9070 and 9070 XT.

I think there will be a similar scenario with $300 5060 8G vs $350 9060 XT 16GB(assuming AMD sells at $350). There is a very real reason why nvidia is straight up not even sending the drivers to reviewers. It will be a bloodbath in reviews. I can guarantee you at $350 9060 XT is gonna be sold out for a long time, and we will have a similar situation like now with stock available only for inflated price models. But if we compare 9060 8G at $300 or even $250, then yeah nvidia will outsell it no matter what, main reason being that I expect the 8G version to be production limited in favor of the 16G version.

But of course, nvidia still has the monopoly in laptop dgpu and that's where most 5060 will end up I think, in $800-$1000 laptops.

In the two last games tested by Computerbase and at 1440p the 9070XT is well above its suggested rating, in Elder Scrolls it s close to a 5090 for the 1% FPS and in both games it s overall faster than a 5080, and also as much as 20% faster than its supposed 5070ti competitor.

Playing DOOM: The Dark Ages on my 9070XT and it is a great experience even while streaming to twitch. Zero frame drops, good quality stream.

I should have a 5070 Ti later this week to compare to but considering the 9070 XT beats the 5080 it's really not a fair fight.

Regarding pricing, I checked newegg repeatedly today. One could order an 9070 XT with an included monitor for $825 at any point. That's $75 less than the cheapest available 5070 Ti.

So I'm still not convinced AMD won the fake MSRP war.

Call me crazy, but I think GPU prices are going to start moving closer to MSRP over the next couple of months. Maybe that's just wishful thinking though. The stock of cards does seem to be steadily improving, and there can only be so many buyers willing to pay a significant premium to be on the latest and greatest upper-mid tier cards. I can't be the only one who stubbornly refuses to buy when GPU prices are this inflated. I'm in full wait and see mode at this point.

I doubt it. Nvidia has had plenty of issues over the years that were met with a collective shrug from the market. Look over at the TPU threads where people are lining up to defend the 8 GB 5060 Ti. A GeForce card could burn their house down and they'd use the insurance payout to buy a new GeForce card.

The simple truth is that there's more demand than supply and Nvidia would rather sell chips to AI companies that will net several times over what a consumer GPU does. AMD makes more from their server CPUs so they'll put more does towards that.

The subset of the market buying cards at the higher prices seems to care about raw performance. They're the ones setting the price because they'll pay the most. You could argue that they value the NVidia feature set at the same amount that they discount it due to perceived issues, but that's hard to measure.

If you mean the Real MSRP, then yeah (accounting for any tariffs).

9070 is in stock right now at $689 which lets say the Real MSRP of that is $649. 9070 XT's been in stock at $729 which is only slightly more than the Real MSRP of $699.

It's also been in stock for 700 today too. But in the current market conditions they sell through quickly even at higher prices.

I thought it would be calming down by now but I guess not. This is more interesting than the pandemic shortages because there isn't a clear reason to me other than tariff panic why people would pay e.g. $800 for an extremely basic 9070 XT.
