With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

Wow. He's clearly very bitter about the whole thing and AMD was mean to him excluding him like that from the limited circle of reviewers. And Nvidia called him asking why he hadn't posted his 9060 review??? What the heck?

He procured the sample himself and still had to abide by AMD's restrictions? This sounds "strange".

At overclockers.co.uk
The cheapest 9060xt 16GB are going for £314.99 and the cheapest 9060xt 8GB are going for £269.99.

For reference the cheapest 5060 ti 16 GB are going for £389.99, 5060 ti 8G for £319.99 and the 5060 is going for £269.99.

The website seems to be alive as opposed to the 9070 XT launch.
Just ordered my 16GB card from Scan, should be here tomorrow.

I had a 6800 XT for a few months that never got installed due to a mess up with a new PSU order to match the higher power requirements, so this is the first upgrade since I bought my 6600 XT in 2021.

Looking forward to your honest review!
Lol, with my OCD and the resulting time it takes me to make any change to the system these days it might be Christmas before it comes 😆

Last time I made any change to my PC was out of absolute necessity when the Samsung SSD I was using for a main OS drive died after only 2 years.

Beginning to wonder if low balling the RPMs on my Noctua CPU fan to avoid the noise it makes might have sped up the degradation, because the system is pretty anaemic on airflow otherwise.

Funnily enough I will be going from 6600XT to 9060XT 16GB. I don't really use my PC that much directly but I do use it when streaming to the steam deck so that should mean I can wait a loooooong time before I need a new handheld machine.

If you are just using it to stream then a Steam Deck seems a little chunky where some lesser ARM based handheld would do?

They can randomly die (it's Samsung after all). I wouldn't worry about the airflow thing, especially for an SSD. Any decent SSD is supposed to throttle down if it gets too hot. Dying during normal use would only be possible if hot air was being blown directly on it and temps stayed above 60C all the time.

What happened to that 6800xt?
Still mostly beat the crap of all these xx60 cards.
I went through a big room clean out and it had been sitting on the floor of my room for months, so I sold it to my dad who was still sporting an ancient and extremely loud RX 390 chonker in his tower PC sitting in the living room.

(when it was on you could hear it upstairs even when it's not even doing anything - now his PC is quiet as a mouse with the 6800 XT triple fan design)

He already had a more powerful PSU that could handle it, so it worked out fine, and I don't game enough for the loss to have bothered me, especially as he paid what it originally cost me.

You sold it to your dad? Someone who spent a lot of money raising you? I give my brother computer parts for free because I lived rent free with him for a time.

I was talking about a handheld with physical controls.

Those AYN things come to mind.

Initially I played locally on it but then I tried Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch and it was a bit ropey so I started using the streaming feature and have not really looked back since.

I will still use it for local capabilities when I go on holiday and have no or poor signal because streaming only works well enough when I am on my in home network.

EDIT: Also the OLED screen is nice.

Amazon US has zero 16GB 9060XTs unless you want to pay $600+. Newegg out of 16GBs. Best Buy US doesnt even have listings for 9060XTs.

I think this launch was even more fake than the 9070XT launch....
What's this then

You're being dramatic. Definitely stock available on launch day at MSRP. I was able to add to cart at BestBuy and Newegg, which I wasn't able to for the 9070 XT.
Maybe complain when it doesn't last.
