Reading NTFS partitions from another computer

I'm having problems with a computer that I use sporadically. I think I have everything backed up, but would like to pull the data from the HD to make sure. The HD is an NTFS file system that was running Windows 7. When I install the drive into an external enclosure and view it on another computer, I can see the directory structure and copy some files, but I can't get to any files under the "Users" directory. I did a search online and the results seemed to imply that I could change the permissions of the directory, but when I attempted to do so I got an error stating that I didn't have the necessary permissions to do so.

Does anybody know of a utility that would allow me to view the files (I can log in with the username and password that created them - just not with the OS)?
