I have another comment about the HI-TECH CDR fiasco. I was in Staples this morning returning an order that Staples.com screwed up by shipping us the wrong 100pk of Imation CD-Rs for the President's Day promotion. I happened to mention those HI-TECH CD-Rs and was told by the manager that the company that offered Staples the HI-TECH promotional deal actually was a non-existent and that Staples stands to loose over $900,000.00 paying rebates that were promised by the non-existent HI-TECH. Apparently Staples did not even know of the problem until the Postmaster General notified Staples corporate after receiving thousands of rebates to a P.O. box in NJ that actually was rented to some unknowing individual. All the recoverable mail sent to that PO has been forwarded to Parago for processing. Staples supposedly sent out a memo to all B&Ms stating that they are supposed to call the Staples rebate center using their special hotline number and get you rebate entered into the Parago system if you take your sales receipt to your local B&M. Apparently there was also only one HI-TECH promotion for either $15 or $25. This same promotion was offered by Staples several times between 9/1/2001 - 11/23/2001. If you purchased this promotion more than once during this period, good luck getting Staples to pay multiple rebates!

Regarding the Hi-Tech Black Friday CDRs:

I called the Staples Hot Line (1-877-549-9794). The CSR I got just asked me for the purchase date (11/23/01) and the UPC number. (He also asked for name, address, etc.). He did not ask me to send in any further info. I checked the Staples rebate site and it now shows on there as "We have received all of your reuiqred information and will process blah blah blah".... So, hopefully it will be just that simple....

Why am I *not* shocked by this? I remember after buying those CDs, I came here and clicked on the link to the rebate at Staples.com...most people agreed this thing looked too shady - the form was an obvious and VERY poor scan that stated 'original form only', and was unlike any other Staples-sponsored rebate I had ever seen. No Web site for tracking, no phone number on the rebate form, if memory serves me there was no address or other contact info on the packaging, plus I had never heard of this company or seen their products in ANY other retail store, ever. Whoever the Staples FOOL was that made the decision to carry this product is probably out of a job.

Hmmm...that makes me wonder if Staples/Parago is deliberately delaying other rebates and funnelling some of that money into this Hi-Tech rebate; borrowing from Peter to pay Paul (otherwise known as a Ponzi Scheme). Of the 3 rebates I have with Parago, all 3 are overdue; 2 Staples and 1 CompUSA...only the CompUSA one has been assigned a check number.

Does anyone have staple rebates fax number for resubmissions? I got the card denying my rebate and need to fax them. I don't have enough time to mail it in before the deadline. Please post here.

I had it before but my old e-mail database is gone.

A long long time ago (9/2/01) I bought that free after rebate 8meg Lexar CF card at crapusa. Well, its been quite a while now and that rebate is handeled by wheresmyrebate.com and it's approved and the mailing date is 11/11/01. If it was mailed, the status would have been "Mailed" instead of "Approved" and its been way past the mailing date. What should I do? I emailed em and an automatic response said to call em and i called em and there aren't any options for rebate status and to talk to anyone or such. Any ideas?

BTW: it was only 20 bucks

Email is a waste of time with New Rochelle aka www.wheresmyrebate.com. Call New Rochelle and have them check your rebate and determine what is the problem. Generally they will tell one of three things...

1. We mailed the check and it was cashed on.....
2. We mailed the check and the USPS returned it as undeliverable. Verify the address that they mailed the check. New Rochelle makes lots of data entry errors
3. Hmm there must have been some sort of system problem, we will mail your check today. If they give you this answer, make sure that you check the status of your rebate on their website the next day to see if the status is updated to mailed. Otherwise, the csr was handing you a line of BS and you need to call again until the staus shows as mailed.

HiVal(yeah the form says I/O Magic..lol) is the best on rebate fulfillment!! not hmm...was only $48.14 before the rebate..guess I can wait..heh. that Hi-Tech fiasco of Staples..whew..glad I only do TDK/Imation deals.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from the rebate outfit for the Office Depot 20GB Maxtor HDD $40 rebate. They said "UPC Code(s) provided do not match offer." The invoice shows the item number 726831 and the rebate form shows SKU 726-831. I cut the UPC code from the box and attached it and now they say "UPC Code(s) provided do not match offer." This is a lot of crap!

There are too many people with the same complaint, so I don't think we're all village idiots!

Mcafee...just got denied...missed deadline
Satples, called Teaxs rebate center at 888-856-9210. Nice man asked me date address and name and said call back in 2 weeks. He will submit to HiTech and have answer by then. Said he's gotten lots of calls, asked very few questions. *fingers crossed* Anyone get CompUSA rebates for free RAM from 11/23?
UpDate...just got 3 Pony Rebates....
1 compusa 20 Ram 11/23
1 15 and 1 10 for 110 pack cdr's from BB 11/23

The fax number for rebatesHQ is: (972)745-8803
But I was told the resubmission through fax was not being processed.
I faxed mine on 1/23/02 and they still could not find my record. So
I had to send everything in the mail to their resubmission department.
You might need to call them again for the fax resubmission.

I've had pretty good luck with Best Buy rebates. So far I've received 11 of the 13 that I've submitted. I'm still waiting on a $2 rebate for Maxell VCR tapes and a $25 rebate for Magic Video Deluxe.

You do have all your paperwork in order ? (copies of ALL submitted documentation,i.e. UPC(s),receipt(s),rebate form(s),etc.) And why did you jump out and file a BBB complaint without finding what the problem is/was? and [NETGUY[/b] read the following please...

sorry about the short post .. i wrongly assumed a lot of ppl allready know about tthis whole fiasco ..
ok here are more details
one of the deals was
buy and hp photosmart 315 and printer ( an hp make ) then u get 75 $ in officedepot ..
and hp had a promotion

now nowhere is it mentioned either by OD or by HP that u only get one ..ie either 75 $ in OD or 100 $ rebate from HP.

All my documentation was complete .. and i allways send priority mail with confirmation .. they got my stuff and sent it back to me saying
essentially "We cannot give u the rebate as u allready got 75$ off from OD " ..

I called rebate center which sent me to "Office of president" in HP and the rude guy over there basically told me to "Do what u wanna do"

So i filed a complaint with BBB but i dont want to give up on this.

Always. All of my BB rebates that have actually been handled by them have had an excellent turnaround time, unmatched by anyone else...in one case, I *received* a check 17 days after mailing. That said though, many "Best Buy" rebates are actually manufacturer rebates, and those will generally take longer to process.

I got the same postcard which is total BS because I compared the UPC code I sent in to the one that's actually listed on the rebate form. It was identical. I called them at: 866-856-3965 and explained the situation. I think it was option three for "declined postcards" and then there's two lame options... I just pressed '0' and got an operator. Anyway, the guy was very helpful and re-entered the info. He says I should get a check within 4-6 weeks.

It's really getting to the point where it's not worth it anymore to deal with rebates. They send you false denials, make you phone in 8 weeks later to get them to send the check out... and still, half the time, you never get a check!

I got the same card fm them 3 days ago...I'll try to call them today and see what BS they'll give me. I submitted 3 rebates with different promotional dates and got two already except for this one. I really made sure that I sent the right upc code so I'll check what the problem was. They're just probably trying to weasel out of this rebate...some people won't bother to followup on this thus saving them some money especially now that ram prices are going up.
