Recently cancelled cable... Sports?

I recently cancelled my cable TV subscription since they jacked my price thirty bucks. I have an Amazon Fire stick and I'm streaming content. I love it so far. But at the same time I'm dying because I can't watch my sports...

Anyone here in the same situation? Do you have any suggestions for live sports?

If you're looking for a legal alternative, you're probably SOL. IIRC, NFL Sunday Ticket and NHL Centre Ice had streaming options.

Unfortunately, a lot of sports programming has moved off OTA channels and on to cable-only stations to force people back on to pay TV.

Depending where you live, an 'HD' antenna could get you the major networks that you might be able to catch some games on.

OTA antenna works for a good number of games, though your local options are limited. ESPN and things of that nature are going to require something else, most likely the DISH sling alternative.

As for going with satellite, in most cases, it will not be cheaper. My 69.99 whatever rate is more like 110. Until my Internet becomes consistently reliable, I'll probably keep DirecTV. But if the Sling thing comes about, that may be enough to put the ax to satellite for me.

I use my family members account to sign into NBC Sports/ESPN GO etc

Works great. If that wasn't the case I would use Stream site (firstrowsports).....just be careful on that site (lots of pop ups, DO NOT click on anything > right click close)

in other words, for cable cutters there is no reasonable legal alternative to sports beyond what you get on OTA antennas.

Not true. There is ESPN3, the NHL package, the MLB package, and soon the ESPN 1/2 package.

espn3 requires this:
Programs on ESPN require you to sign-in with your TV provider.

can't comment on NHL or MLB cuz NHL or MLB.

Yeah I caught the CBS stream of the playoff game yesterday. My parents have Directv, but they dont support espn3... Guess I'm out of luck for the Ducks Buckeyes game tonight... Sad story!

There is a lot of sports not on ESPN1, so ESPN3.

Basically the line is football. You want football? Unless you like the local NFL team you gotta pay.

???

ESPN3 (which leads to watchespn) doesn't work unless you have a valid cable subscription login.

Yeah, sports is a major sticking point for many people when it comes to TV subscriptions.

Luckily I'm only interested in continuously watching the Vikings lose, and their games are broadcast OTA for me. Other than that, I don't watch any sports.

ESPN3 works if your ISP pays for ESPN3. Some content is blocked off though. The blocked off content is stuff that is also being broadcasted on ESPN 1/2 or the SEC Network. This is what you need a login for.

But even that can be gotten around sometimes. For something like the National Title game where every ESPN subscriber gets the same game you need a login. But for ESPN 1/2 content that is different based on region (aka the north gets a B1G game and the south gets a SEC game) you can use a VPN to get around the issue by making it seem like you are from the part of the country that is getting the other game.

I like sitting in the FRONT ROW for all of my SPORTS

Too bad those pole smokers make you turn off your ad blocker now in order to access their content so you get inundated with too many pop ups to actually watch what you're trying to watch.

Eff that noise.

Don't know a thing about that site, but a lot of ads are served via js, so one could allow ads on a site, but (selectively)block js. Depends on their exact implementation.

I use a USB HDTV tuner plus a Mohu-like antenna(a little cheaper, not sure from whom, from Amazon) on my laptop. That's good enough for NFL and local college sports, but SOL for all things cable. I've learned that I'm ok without it but that's obviously YMMV.

Never thought of that. Thanks...I'll give that a try.
