Recomended Memory and MSI Neo4

I have been reading lots of information on memory for the AMD64 systems. I am building a 3200+ on a MSI Neo4 board. I somewhat understand the issues around memory not being the limiting factor for the 64. I want to overclock my machine as far as I can on air and I also know it will have little effect on day to day performance. But I am tring to learn about overclocking and how far I can get my new machine to run so I dont mind spending a bit more money for better ram.

The question I have is between lower latancy and higher speed. I can get PC3200 ultra low latancy memory or can go with something like DDR500. Both run about the same price. I have seen different opinions about each.

Also does anyone know if the nvidia sata ports can be locked or is it only the Silicon Image's sata ports that are locked. I am planning on running a sata raid 0 with a IDE data drive.

Thanks

pc3200 ul latency is fine. just use a divider. ex at 250fsb, use a 4xhtt and 5:4 divider.

Having ordered one, I was pondering this same question - I was thinking of the low latency kingston ram, but kingston's site doesn't have any info about compatibility with this mobo yet.

When I look at Corsair site they have listed

Most Popular:
VS1GBKIT400 / DDR-400 (PC-3200) / N / A

Best Overclocking:
TWINX1024-4400C25 / DDR-550 (XMS-4400) / 2.5-4-4-8

Lowest Latency:
TWINX1024-3200XL / DDR-400 (PC-3200) / 2-2-2-5

But I am not sure in real world performance which will be best. I am sure I could get better clock rates with the 4400 but I dont plan on water cooling so I am thinking for a air cooled system the low latency might hold up best and if I run into trouble at 1:1 I can use a divider. Seems like things are very different with the 64 chip.

OK well I have decided to go with Kingston HyperX KHX3200ULK2/1G because I can get it for 218.00. Yes I know it isnt value ram and my real life performance might not show it but hey it isnt that much more then value ram and much less then other high performance ram. I will let everyone know how it goes.

Us in the know already know how it went. You just tossed $80 to the wind. Good choice.

No because if I worked for the goverment I would be spending your money. I am spending my money which I work for so I can decide how it is spent. Your are right it might be a watse but I guess I will find that out myself. And in some things peice of mind is worth the money. But if you think I should be working for the goverment you sure can send me the extra money. LOL

You cant find out for yourself. Ever heard? Ignorance is bliss. You will be joyfull with that ram, and thats good, but the kicker is you would of been just as happy with something that preforms EXACTLY THE SAME for $80 LESS. Thats a free 120GB hard drive.

Any of them should give you a great OC.

Unless you?re doing a lot of compression faster memory isn?t going to help you OC as the A64 doesn?t care about dividers anymore. Thus Value select is the best choice. Unless you like wasting $100.

not really...unless you can find value that has timings of 2-2-2-5. just because it dosnt like deviders dosn't mean it dosnt like low latencies.

That is why I decided to go for the low latencies. But I guess I will find out. And I can read bench marks as well. To be honest I dont need any of this stuff over my current computer but this is a hobby for me and also a learning experience.

Darkeyed...you did good buying QUALITY memory! Some people think cheap is good, and they apply it to all aspects of their lives, but I prefer the comfort and performance of QUALITY parts in my computer. No scratching my head to figure out why I get lockups, just smooth computing, which is worth $80 any day.

Your absolute best bet would be to check MSI and see what they recommend. They have a list of supported memory for this board.
