I have a KDS 17inch trinitronmonitor right now that has begun to flicker and stay off. I tried the method that people have suggested of smacing the monitor on the side to make it work. This does work however when i turn the monitor of or when my computer shuts down the monitor refuses to display anything when turned on/given a video signal.

So i was wondering if anyone could give me a recommendation as to what monitor to buy?
I'm not looking to spend more then $320 or so and i have been looking into a few 19" ones (Viewsonic and Samsung @ BestBuy).

Also i'm a gamer so no crt's for me .

Thanx,
Virge

Do you mean no TFT/LCDs?

I have an old Proview 15-in LCD that works quite well in games, even FPS games. If the newest flat panels are better than the older ones, then I wont switch back to CRTs for sure.

Heard the LG Flatrons are very good if you use the computer for long periods of time..

<Answer if you want to> Which is better, 15inch LCD or 19inch CRT?

You say you want to spend under $320 for 19'' and NO CRT?
You want 19'' LCD for under $320?

I have a Samsung 900IFT and I LOVE it! I got it for $310 from Dell (20% off + free shipping). If you can get a similar deal, this is an excellent monitor.

oops i guess i wasnt very clear
I meant to say that i'm not really into flat panels because they just seem too blurry for me. However i do give credit to the KDS RAD-7 which looks really nice but is sorta outta my price range. I'm just looking for a monitor that isnt more then ~$320 and is flat screen (trinitron has spoiled me).

Also are like 15" flat panels the same as a 17" trinotron in terms of the viewable screen?

thanx

A 15" LCD will have a 15" viewable whereas a 17" CRT will have about 15.8 to 16" viewable. LCDs having better focus are comfortable at slightly higher resolutions than CRTs though so the small area difference is negligable. Never owned a true flat screen but I've had no problems sitting here all day in front of 2 Iiyama CRTs. A Vision Master 350 15" and an S900MT 19". The 19" is running 100Hz at 1152*864 and looks great and cost about £210 (300USD I believe.) Hope this helps.
