These are from Fry's Electronic. I'm basically gonna buy a router before I move from California to New York in 2 weeks.

Netgear MR814 Wireless-B Access Point/Router ($30)

Airlink AR315W 54Mbps Wireless-G Cable/DSL Broadband Router ($20) http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4056592?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

This one amazes me:
Netgear WGR101 54 Mbps Cable/DSL Wireless Travel Router ($80 - as of now has a rebate offer) http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4094872?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I've used the Netgear MR814 before and had some problem w/ it; unless they've fixed the problem stay away from it. Never used the other two you listed so can't comment on them.

I personally recommend DLink's DI-624 I installed two of these for a small law office and they've been rock solid.
*Make sure you don't pick up DI-524 by mistake; it drops packets every now and then.*

DLink makes good and cost effective products; LinkSys's stuff is pretty good but often over priced; Netgear is kinda half-assed in between in my opinion...

This might help too...

Linksys WRT54G has a huge following, and a lot of custom firmware written for it. I know it's not on your list, but I would still think about this one

Question about D-524...is this packet issue correctable with the latest software update? I'm considering this product with the SBC ADSL modem. It's on sale for $20.

TIA

furballi:
I got the DI-524 for a friend of mine in August last year. Updated to a firmware released around the same time and it was even worse - we'd lose connection every 10 min. So I reverted back to the original firmware.
Someone else I know also picked one up just recently; she has the same problem and has to reboot the router every now and then.

Check DLink's website; if they have a firmware released after August 2004, you can give it a try since it's so cheap. Make sure to keep the receipt though.

There was a similar post about this router and SBC DSL. The user contacted SBC and the tech was able to resolve the disconnect issue. I will certainly hang on to the receipt. Thanks!

I've been very very happy with my Netgear wireless G router. I picked it over the D-Link after reading about problems with the D-Link routers rebooting and dropping signal. Otherwise, I've heard pretty good things about their products.

I want to try the new Netgear RangeMax router, but man is it expensive compared to a regular 802.11b/g router! Ditto for the RangeMax wireless PCI cards and USB adapters, but they are supposed to establish a much stronger signal than the regular equipment.

Given today?s marked buying an 802.11b is like buying a ?Pinto? .

For the same money or few $$ more you can do much better.

While NewEgg is good place for specialty, Hardware and occasional Sales their prices (including Ship) are not as good for common hardware.

Just looking at Fry's advertisement...

Linksys 54Mbps Wireless-G Broadband Router

$49.99 - $10.00 = $39.99
In Store Price - Mail In Rebate = Price After Rebate

Is this a good buy?

My home is using the Linksys Wireless-B. I've had just one problem but nothing else. I guess I may be more comfortable with Linksys but still open to any other options.

EDIT: I guess my other option is to upgrade my home network from a "b" to a "g". I think this might be a better investment.

Linksys WRT54G all the way
once you have it for a while and come to understand what it's capable of, you will be glad you went with it

 i first heard about all the features you get from custom firmware so then i decided to get it. i'm glad i did. i get even more features from the 3rd party firmware developers who keep updating their firmware. if i were to recommend a wireless g router or get another wireless g router, it'd definantly be a wrt54g.

Does Linksys Speedbooster really helps?

Currently my modem/router is upstairs and one of my computer (Win XP w/SP2) is connected wireless via the Linksys WUSB11. What happens is, it looses connections periodically. Actually I should say... "No wireless connection found" upon starting up the computer almost most of the time. I'm just wondeirng if I should replace it with a speedbooster adapter? Thanks!

Edit: After reading recommendations, I am leaning toward the Linksys WRT54G - I may pick it up as early as today. Now that I'll have a Wireless-G router, I would need a wireless adapter for the downstairs computer.

Your thoughts on Airlink+ 54Mbps Wireless-G PCI Adapter @ $14.99 (no rebate required)?

Linksys WRT54G. Speedbooster doesn't help all that much from what I've been told....

Lucky you I bought Airlink+ wireless B card for 16 buck and it works well with my Linksys router. Dlink card doesn't work well with linksys router. But if you want WPA support then Airlink+ is not for you.
