Recommendations for CHEAP web hosting?

Howdy,

Dartworth is stopping his free hosting so a bunch of people will probably be looking for somewhere to move to. Can anyone recommend a few good places to go that are very cheap? Because most of us used his site because it was free, I'm guessing most people would want something extremely cheap if not free again.

Personally I'd be willing to pay up to $25 a year or so because my site is useless and just for some neighbors to see a schedule of some things and it's jsut not worth anything more than that to me.

I know hostpc.com has a Budget setup for $25/yr and my wife uses them and has very good success. Would anyone else recommend them or recommend someone else?

I think waggy is confusing his domain registrar with his web host. HostPC has had several different sales/promos, he's probably paying anywhere from $15 to $30 per year to host WaggyTalk.com

Buy your domain through NameCheap. Get your hosting through HostPC.

ETA - I've been with HostPC for several years now and only had one problem. It was when the hurricanes came through Florida a couple of years ago but the problem is supposed to be fixed now.

Yeah, I had that problem too. They were down hard for a few days there.

Now, I've been wondering, if Dart going to completely stop all hosting, or is he going to charge now? If I were him, I'd charge now, but give ATOT a small discount, that way, his servers wouldn't go to waste and he'd have $, we'd have a cheaper solution to hosting, and we'd all win (for the most part)

Though he may be using his servers for another purpose, of course.

Actually HostPC did have a deal that was $9 a year!!! way back when (I definately learned about it here on Anandtech). They are still honoring that price for me - I get 100 mb with 300 mb bandwidth per month and 1 database. Not much I know but enough for my ebay pics and wordpress.

edit: 200 MB with 3 gig bandwidth/month

heh rossman told me about the deal. i got in on it and they been honoring the price ever since. for me its the perfect amount of space i need.

Now I remember that deal. I've helped so many people with web hosting that I tend to lose track of who, what, when, where and why.

I am using Hostnine now. Too early to say if I'm happy with them, but the reviews are awesome and they are very cheap. Support is instant with live chat. They did my website transfer for me in about 5 hours.
