If I were him, I'd charge now, but give ATOT a small discount, that way, his servers wouldn't go to waste and he'd have $, we'd have a cheaper solution to hosting, and we'd all win (for the most part)

Though he may be using his servers for another purpose, of course.

I think if more people offered to send donations (and actually sent them) there is a chance his free hosting offer would remain open.

I sent donations....more than he asked. I wish he would keep me :-( - I was used to it, the interface, and all that jazz. Does everyone use cPanel?

Oh well.

That sounds pretty decent... how much and how long have you been with them? Also, how configurable is their service? I'm with GoDaddy at the moment after being annoyed with my older provider and GoDaddy isn't that bad, but what bothers me is that the website has maybe 5 configuration options and that's it. I was happy with the configuration that CPanel gave me, but GoDaddy's is like Fisher Price's My First Website.

ETA - I've been with HostPC for several years now and only had one problem. It was when the hurricanes came through Florida a couple of years ago but the problem is supposed to be fixed now.

I remember that. Joe flew down to the Boca center as well and kept almost hourly updates.

He's so much more expensive than i remember. I had a deal from for like $10/yr, which was perfect for me... now the cheapest one is $25/hr.

I only use it for mail forwarding, so even just 100mb a month would suit me.

Dang...I don't think I could afford that. That's over $4,000 a week! :Q

Well, unfortunately I am not real web page knowledgeable. I have been with them over a year, and have had great uptime. I used to run a phpbb forum for a world of warcraft guild, and I was able to install nurfed dkp using the mysql back end, and I was able to install a team speak server with my shell access successfully. But now all thats gone. But they really are awesome.

bluehost is good. i have a few clients who use them. yes, their offer is pretty good. they run cPanel with their own customizations. DeviousTrap also uses cPanel. both are good choices as is hostpc.com.

i wouldn't recommend GoDaddy for web hosting. their proprietary stuff drives me crazy and their email support is even worse.

My budget is 10$ a year. I made 3$ with google ads last year, on a 10$ netfirms deal that is now done. 3$ doesn't cover a 25$ a year plan, and that's a cheap one from what I've seen. The site as you can see....is strictly a blog, personal site I do just for the fun of it.

The free web hosting is coming back however isn't it. Did I see that right?

What do you think about this?

http://www.cookiehost.com/ccc.php?lb
5$ a year, but the host looks kinda shady.

You have to remember web hosts like netfirms, dreamhost, 1and1, etc. over sell big time. Getting 1000GB/10000000GB for $10/yr is unrealistic.

RippleHost.com has a $9.99 per YEAR plan.

During check out, next to How did you hear about us? type RossMAN and you'll receive free Fantastico.

I've been using HostPC for about 6 months now and they've been pretty decent. The thing with them is that you really need to read their forums regularly to learn about changes and outages. As with anything, you get what you pay for, I'd use HostPC for a personal site, but not for a business site.

Nice suggestion although there are cheaper alternatives.

I signed up for moreweb.com back when they offered an AT Hot Deals special 50% off.

I chose moreweb.com because:
1) They're an established web host, their parent company actually hosts AT.
2) 50% off if you pre-pay for two years.
3) DirectAdmin control panel.

$83.40 for TWO YEARS gets me 2GB/50GB, I use it mostly for email and image hosting.

DON'T use dreamhost

Another AT member, AgaBoogaBoo(sp???) I THINK, has a web company: cernax hosting. I would highly recommend them, although I currently host on hostgator

I got in on the same deal and I run my car clubs site from it. I couldn't be happier and have had maybe one issue which was resolved within a few hours. It always has good speed and zero downtime.
