so I just landed my first job as what seems to pretty much be a system administrator (they call it help desk but its pretty much overall I.T. handyman) position. Ive done alot of my own tech for years and I've been working as a level 2 at a helpdesk job for the past 3 years. Built many pc's not afraid to rip things apart
Ive got no experience really directly with alot of the tasks that I will be needing to perform and this will be a great learning position at this place for me. I'm not over my head with my abilities, and there will be people above me who can help so I'm not diving into a job I wont really be able to perform. I want to try to read up on as much of it as possible to be prepared. I'm sure a lot of this is going to be a cakewalk after I've done it once, but theres always that first time.
Things I can think of will need to work with that Ive never done before:
Rackmount servers
Big expensive hardcore Cisco networking boxes... Not exactly your everyday linksys 4 port router I might have experience with.
tape backup system (looks like they have this big jukebox of tapes)
OOOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDD okidata printers that actually feet with the holes on the page sides.
Printer dissection and repair
BIG expensive multifunction equipment.
VOIP systems
unix servers
exchange administration
active directory full account administration (I've done crap like password resets and the system SEEMS simple enough...)
Place is a pretty much a franchise of a larger company so they have a generic help desk that fields a lot of the dumb questions, and I get sent around the place for the rest.
My question for people who may have worked similar positions, is if there are any great websites, places, books, whatever... Things that would be a good read to help better prepare myself for the job and educate me on areas I'm not proficient in (besides english forgive me I had very little sleep last night, I'm sure my post is a mess lol)
